This just in from Canadian Coroner that "The infamous peanut butter kiss originally thought to have killed a Quebec girl had nothing to do with her death, a coroner revealed Thursday. She died form an athsma attack" ""A recent study shows at the end of an hour, there is no allergen left in the saliva. It's not very probable that peanut butter is implicated. Nine hours later, I don't believe it and studies show the same thing." (sorry I don't know how to do a link).
The girl had spent hours at a party with smokers at a home in Saguenay, Que., when her breathing problems began. She also had smoked pot in the previous hours, Miron added, another factor that can cause problems for asthma sufferers.
Very sad. I showed this to my daughter who was very relieved a kiss did not cause her reaction. Isuppose if they had just recently eaten peanut butter it would set off a reaction but 9 hours seemed so long. This happened a few years ago in canada as well when a child confused her reaction to milk (she had eaten french fries in the school cafeteria) with an ashtma attack. She kept telling the teachers it was her asthma so they didn't get hte epipen until it was to late and she died. It turned out the cafeteria staff had used the same cooking instruments for the french fries to make poutine(french fries and cheese, yes, its a canadian thing and very popular) so the cross contamination of the fries set her off.
