what is the difference between loratadine and desloratadine?

why should piriton be used with caution in asthmatics ?

and, has anyone ever actually had an allergic reaction to the piriton (chlorphenamine)?

having the yearly nightmare again with ds who has severe hayfever. nothing but piriton has any effect but i find he is itching like mad when on it and very phlegmy so trying to avoid going on that again. but, with other ones he misses school alot.

help!

today I must have looked so bad that the chemist in Boots actually gave me a free hayfever pack!

I find that on really bad days taking a decongestant helps. I don't know how old your boy is but perhaps ask the chemist to recommend one that doesn't react with whatever else he's taking.

I'm amazed he can take the others you mention without falling asleep. Most of those ones are ones that make you drowsy aren't they?

have you tried flixonase or beconase nasal sprays?

I give ds1 (7) benadryl.

allegedy. a teaspoon of local honey each day works.

My ds uses loratadine, nasal drops (beco-something) and eye drops (sodium chromoglycate). The eye drops need to be used regualrly even if there are no symptoms and the effect builds up. Just found out from the chemist that his nasal drops have been withdrawn so will need to find something else.

I had an odd reaction to piriton - a really bad spell when I thought I was having a stroke. Horrid.

Decongestants have worked on me in the past.

and the local honey is supposed to be v effective.

Not an expert, but have tried all the ones you mention (rapitil used to be my saviour but has suddenly stopped working for me) and now the only things that help are:
Acrivastine (benadryl - but check as there are two types and one is cetrizine)
Sofradex drops (prescription only I think).

Your ds has my sympathy.

I didn't know piriton shouldn't be used in asthmatics. I've never had a reaction to it and I've got quite bad asthma.

I don't know what the differences are but the pharmacist today gave me something different to piriton to treat my cat allergy, plus anti-histamine eye drops to treat it, and I still can't see out of my right eye!

Also just noticed that you say he's itchy. Are you sure that its the piriton making him itch as thats what they give dp to stop the itching when he's on morphine.

i googled piriton and found a couple of things that just said to be used with caution in asthmatics. on closer inspection on the label on the bottle one of the side effects says thickening of phlegm so maybe thats it.
also says allergic reaction can occur (rash and itching)

i'm pretty sure it made ds2 itch. i've had to resort to it two years running and each time the itching has started.

went to the docs last night and she's given him flixonase spray and telfast

anyone used Telfast??

Festive - I use Telfast 180 for Polymorphic Light Eruption - it's a skin thing that I get when the sun comes out. It's been one in along line of anti-histamines I've taken for it and has been the best one.

my ds2 also gets a weird rash around his neck and sometimes back when he's been in the sun. Never heard of that what you have, maybe it's the same.

do you have any side effects from the telfast if you don't mind me asking?

i thought telfast wasn't recommended anymore so was goin to google but decided i would only worry myself!

Telfast should be fine, I think it was it's predecessor, terfenadine which is no longer recommended. I was on terfenadine a few years ago and it was changed to Telfast
