Just a wee story...

I was visiting my mum yesterday with my dd and my sister gave dd money for her Easter saying "you can use the money to buy a really big egg" to which my, nearly 3 year old, dd replied "no i cant, i am allergic to eggs and nuts!"

Looks like someone's being paying attention

Good for her! Sensible and confident - and with cash to spend on something more interesting than bad chocolate. You must be very proud :-)

I can still be proud of ds2 (coeliac) aged 11 when he either keeps something back to check with me, it comes out eating something and says its ok he checked

I'm still thinking about this :-) and thinking that awful as living with allergies can be... it's a credit to our little people and their parents of course, when it turns out to be an opportunity to learn (earlier than most young people do), that

• it's ok to be different (make different choices)
• it's important to look after yourself
• you don't have to say yes to everything
• responsibility (hopefully not too much...)
• diplomacy ('yes that does look like a delicious cake Mrs Jones...'

... and doubtless other things that are essential parts of being a well-rounded, healthy person.

Your right maz...it does make me sad but I'm just glad that she is aware and I really don't think that she feels left out - this may change I know as she slgeta older.

We are just back from a local pub where we go quite a lot for dinner. So far my dd has always had food that we have taken for her but she loves going there and "eating out" - its more about the socialising and being out and about than the food

And she is quite confident saying no to food and always comes and checks with me before eating anything. I find it remarkable that at such a young age she can do that. Hopefully this will continue!
