Weaning with a family history of food allergies

Hi
I didn't know whether to post this here or weaning but I started blw with 7 mo ds about a month ago. He is doing great with toast, mango, carrot, banana finger food etc but I am now getting a bit nervous about introducing other things. Basically my dad is one of those with a serious tomato allergy vvvv sick etc. I'm the same with kiwi, fish (tuna makes me vomit before i even swallow) but that's easily avoided. Well as a family of veggies although we will probably offer ds some meat as DP eats it occasionally finding proper meals without even cooked tomatoes is really restrictive. Also should I wait to introduce anything with tomato in it until a year. I am sure we could cope. Any advice or experiences welcome

Think the advice is wait until 6 months and then try. Don't know about tomato allergies but both me and my sister have a history of allergies, especially with cows milk and I just introduced it once tied reached 6 months.

While a family history of allergies, asthma and eczema does make it more likely that a child will also develop allergies I don't think there's any evidence to suggest that a child is more likely to have the same allergies. If your child hasn't shown any signs of allergies so far then I don't see any reason not to introduce foods as normal, just keep an eye out for any reactions. If you're still worried, it might be worth keeping a food diary so that if there are any symptoms you can identify the most likely cause of the problem.

Think that's pretty much what I thought too free but said so much better by you Smile

Thanks. Will keep an eye out. I started weaning as normal at 6 months but had some memory of avoiding things until a year if their we're allergies in the family but couldn't find the article again when I was researching.
