The annual dairy free Easter thread

Just bought Choices dairy free Easter bunnies in holland and Barrett. They contain soya, but no nut warning, hurrah!! They also had Choices white and dark eggs and Celtic chocolate eggs.

Has anyone seen any of the supermarket offerings yet?

Last year I bough some amazing dark chocolate eggs in Poundland, no dairy and no nut warning either. I doubt lightening will strike twice though so need to find something for this year. Were the ones in H&B expensive?

I have some egg moulds so I was thinking of just buying safe chocolate and making it an Easter activity to make our own.

Sainsbury!!! Have dairy free eggs and bunnies :)

M&S do some yummy apple and sultana hot cross buns which are egg and dairy free (not sure about other allergens though sorry...)

Waitrose are selling Moo Free eggs and choc bunnies.

Our local Sainsburys do a big Kinnerton egg and the Choices white and milk choc ones.
I noticed Waitrose also do Haribo Easter eggs which are available on Ocado too, oh and bags of marshmallow shaped bunnies.

I was also in Sainsburys today. They had the small white choices egg and two larger choices eggs, one with the caramel chics and one with the choc discs. Also a large kinnerton one and a Sainsburys own large one. No bunnies though.

I found some mini foil wrapped dairy, gluten and nut free choc by D and D chocolates from freefromforkids. They look just right for an egg hunt but may be on the dark siden(haven't opened the foil yet!)

I wish whizz ears still did their sugar coated speckled eggs - they were perfect!

The choices eggs don't mention nuts at all. I might email them to ask about nuts as that worries me a bit.

Excited about the bunnies going to eat to sainsbos and see if they have them

Some great suggestions here, will be exploring local shops this weekend. Hotel Chocolate dark eggs are dairy free too. The Sainsburys free from 'milk' choc (rice based) is great for DS too. First easter we are looking for this as DS was little enough not to have easter eggs last year.

Truffkin we got the kinnerton one in asda. It looks very adult but we take the egg out And put it in an Easter bag with other treats and this works well. The choices ones in sainsburys are much smaller.

Mamado, I've been bemoaning the loss of the whizzers speckled eggs and beans too :-(

The closest thing I've found are speckled jelly eggs. A few of the online sweet shops do them, you can probably get them in pick n mix too. Also Waitrose have a pack of jelly eggs, but not sure what size they are.

I would have thought the Choices eggs would have had a nut warning if there was a chance of contamination given they are meant for allergic children.

Hotel chocolat also have some little dark chocolate chicks, they state suitable for vegans. Unfortunately DS reacted to them last year so there must be some contamination from nuts.

I spoke to the manufacturer of Choices (they also make the Celtic chocolates , the Sainsbury's freefrom chocolate, Tesco freefrom and Asda versions too) and he reassured me that they have no nuts on the premises (even have to change clothing etc on entering the factory) but haven't got the nut free message due to the cost involved. We have to avoid even the 'made in a factory that uses' for DD2 and she seems fine with Choices.

Oh those Whizzers speckled eggs and beans were great - 'Smarties' for the dairy free child to be just like everyone else!

A lot of these other chocs may contain traces of milk (I'm thinking Hotel chocolat, some Moo free products) so it depends on your requirements - for us that is too much....

That's great to hear Mamado. It would be nice if they used their soya free chocolate for the Easter eggs. I'm sure some of those little bars they do are soya as well as dairy and gluten free.

Morrisons have an almost-egg-shaped tub full or either chewy-fried-eggs or mini jelly eggs, £3 each.
Asda have 6med or 12 small plastic fillable-eggs for £1 each. (Pound shops do similar in pastel colours, asda is more bold/primary colours)
I'm thinking of decanting the jelly eggs into the small ones & a hot wheels type car in the medium ones. Easter sorted :)
There is someone on eBay that has proper large-sized plastic eggs, I can find the link if anyone wants it. You could get a small beanie toy in those ones.

So glad I've found this thread my little girl is 15 months this Easter and been hunting everywhere for a little Easter treat for her off to Sainsburys we go! Xx

Yes Hotel Chocolat and Moo Free have warnings in. I checked with them and they both say they use the same line to make chocs containing nuts (pralines etc). So far I've only found Kinnerton and Celtic do dairy and nut free without contamination.
I am going to attempt to make my own choc bunny with some moulds this week using Kinnerton.

Hello, I wondered if there would be a thread!

I'm a bit annoyed at my parents who got DD a normal chocolate egg and nothing else. I ended up hiding it and buying a magazine to replace it.

I didn't see any egg shaped kid style chocolates (they were all quite big for a 4yo too) so I got some of the regular kinnerton sets that come with a cup and spoon etc, have taken the chocolate eggs out and refilled the mug with moo free chocolate bunnies and some sweets. I've done similar for DS but with regular chocolate.

Hopefully that will stop too much "but I want the same as DS!" stuff.

I bought a big bag of jelly speckled eggs in tkmaxx which will be perfect for making Easter nest cakes. Poundland have easter mallow shapes and jelly lollies and I also bought some egg moulds from there.

Also tiger and ikea have paper eggs that can be filled.
