Eczema and sun creams??

My LO has mild eczema mainly on his face, we are going abroad in a few weeks, can anyone recommend a sun cream that won't aggrevate his eczema please, thanks in advance ;)

Me too - we've been asked by my daughter's nursery to provide suncream, as there's a mini heatwave due later in the week, apparently, but she gets excema, so not sure what brands would be good. Advice much appreciated.

i find boots soltan as good as any the SENSITIVE type in white bottle. sunscreens can be the worst thing to aggravate my skin...they HURT cos sooo much perfume in them hth!

I can tell you which NOT to use, from bitter experience - top worst ones are ambre solaire and piz buin (children's ones). AWFUL - red, weeping weals in no time. I find boots soltan normal and children/sensitive ones also very irritating and would never buy them. RoC is fine, but expensive - but it has never caused a problem with my kids. The best ones which cause no problem at all are Coppertone and Hawaiian Tropic children's ones in pink bottles - the HT is called Baby Faces and Tender Places and I can't remember what Coppertone is called. You can't get them here, but you can in the US and the Caribbean and quite a lot in Europe. When I see them I buy about 8 bottles and that lasts me until the next trip!

I;'ve just looked at popsy's great list - I've used the Vichy one with no problem as well. But E45 is on my list of no=nos. Hope that helps.

Was advised last year to use kids nivea after Dd reacted to the usual one (has excema anyway). I started a similar thread last year- will bump it up for you.

It doesn't appear to want to "bump" anyway, if your interested it's called "GRRR Excema and suncream"

I think you have to just try it and see.

We managed with Proderm for about a week and then dd started reacting to it. I think you'll probably have to buy a few and see which one works.

Every child seems to react to different ones and sometimes they can start reacting to one after a few applications.

Last year I found E45 suncream to be fine with dts excema, no aggrivation at all.

The E45 one was awful for ds1 brought out patches behind his knees and in elbows straight away. I used proderm last year and I'm about to order more online for our hols in 2 weeks. Boots don't stock it and can't orer it in but she said an independent pharmacy migh t(not unichem) r maybe sainsbury's.
Its now called Bergaderm. You tend to sue a lot as its a mousse so I get a bit slap happy as I'm never sure that i'e put enough on as it soaks in so well.
I googled it and found a supplier for 11.95 with free P&P, can't remember which now. Sorry! Will look at home

Clarins do a special children's one which my two, both of whom have sensitive skins, get on with. The drawback is the vast expense so if you do buy it, don't lose it!

ROC the french brand of sun cream is something that we used on our allergic son from the age of 2- 8. After that his skin improved and he could use a cheaper brand of boots stuff.

However , although the ROC stuff is expensive it did dry his skin out slightly. But we had horrible reactions to lots of other types of sun cream.
As we have a problem with food allergies, and the eczema, BOOTs the chemist were fantastic in calling different manufactuers. They rang australia and America trying to get details of the ingredients.
Sadly most of the stuff we tried was not good, simple patch testing led to a patch of sore weepy ezcema. ( it was expensive as well)

I think any sun cream is going to lead to dry skin, or react on a sensitive skin, but with the roc stuff I could up his skin care routine to cope.

Once you have sorted out the sun cream ,the big issue of sand, and sea comes in to play. William's first dip in the sea was one of the most painful parts of his life. Total body redness and body hives instantly.
We planned hols with 'lake beaches' in france as lake water was kinder to his skin. Its only in the last three years that he has been able to cope with the sea and enjoy it. ( he is 10 now)

My little boy is 6 months and has had excema since birth. I use Vichy sun cream for infants. Its not to expensive and caused no reaction, apart from the dab that I got in his eye, but that was my fault poor bunny. x
