Hello spoke to dietician today as my LG is allergic to cows milk and was wondering what I should do about her formular they have told me to keep her on nutramigen for 3 more months b4 we go to next stage milk but also told me to try her on oat milk as with soya milk in her breakfast she was sick a hour later, can anyone tell me how there little ones have got on with oat milk and if anyone has had to change formula cc

I can only speak from the experience I had as a child. I had severe exczema and they narrowed it down to cow's milk. Back in the 80s there weren't the alternatives there are now. My mum put my on goat's milk. Doctor was very unhelpful, told her she was being silly and 'on her head be it'. Very supportive of a new mother.

Skin problems went and I grew and grew. (At quite a rate!) The taste now is so similar, it might be an option.

Skin condition comes back sometimes, but as soon as I cut dairy, it sorts it self out.

I don't know enough about it all, so don't take as gospel, but thought it might help.

DS has been on oat milk since 10 months and it's fine. Remember to shake the carton well as it separates.

if your baby is allergic to cows milk then you should be completely avoiding cows milk protein, and as a precaution other animal milk. soya milk should be avoided until 1 as there is a high chance of an allergy to it because the protein is simular to milk protein.
You should have the support of a dietitian to guide you through.
Can I ask why you need to give up the formula, my dd is 32 months and still has neocate active every day?

I agree with JoleneB, definitely avoid goat's milk (and any other animal milk) as the proteins are so similar to cow's milk. About 50% of babies allergic to cow's milk are also allergic to soya milk plus it's best to avoid when they're young anyway due to high levels of phyto-oestrogens. Oat milk should be fine on breakfast cereals etc but again as JoleneB says, I don't see why your little one should be taken off hypoallergenic formula. My DS was on Neocate Active until he was 5 as dietician said this was nutritionally the best thing for him, especially for his calcium intake.

I know i want her to stay on nutramigen, iv been told to not give goat milk as is very similar to cows milk she had soya milk few months ago and made her sick so trying with soya yogurts so far so good then will try her with soya milk again in porridge and see how she is hoping she will be ok with it if not oat milk is on standby! Xxx

Kara coconut milk is also very good.

I second Kara!! I don't like oat milk it tastes bad and splits when you cook with it

I use oat milk for DD2 (16 months) for cereal, baking and as a drink during the day. She's still breastfed (trying to wean her on to Pepti junior which is a whole other issue).

She loves the oat milk. While it isn't supposed to be a replacement for breastmilk/formula it works really well for us in day-to-day stuff. I use it on cereal myself and in a lot of family baking and cooking. Even made custard for the plum pudding at Christmas

We used oat milk from 12 mths when I stopped bf. dd wouldn't take formula in any form, not even the flavoured versions of neocate but she was fine with oat milk. She us now 3 and strong as an ox. I agree it's good for cooking with too.

My DS is now 19mo and has had oat milk since 16mo. He has been dairy free since 7mo but had a soya based formula, then became intolerant of that at 15mo. Initially I did 75/25, 50/50, 25/75 of old/new milk and he took to 'oatly' milk fine. We have tried a variety of special formulas and the oat milk was by far the easiest to get him on to!

Oatly - comes in blue (fortified with calcium) and green (not fortified) cartons. Green not suitable for tiny ones according to our dietician. Not too expensive either.

I have used oatly in cakes, biscuits, general cooking - in baking it is fine but sauces does taste a bit wierd. I tend to do an oat sauce for DS and a normal milk sauce for adults with discerning palates!

DS has been gaining weight really really well since coming off soya and onto oat milk.
