Should have I been referred to an allergy clinic?

I had a bad allergic reaction yesterday (asthma, swollen face, tight throat etc). In retrospect I should have gone to the hospital at the time but eventually it settled down. I went to the GP this morning and he said I don't need an epi pen or to see the allergies specialist. He did admit that they have me listed as being allergic to the following:
penicillin, erythromycin, house dust mites, horses, feathers, nurofen lyseine and now cocodamol.

Yesterday's attack really scared me (and my colleagues) and I'm concerned about it happening again

The gp just told me to carry antihistamines with me at all times. I do understand and agree that this is the appropriate first action but would you expect a clinic referral for this?

Hi, I had a clinic referal for a one off reaction however it was anaphylactic shock ambulance job that led to the referal. The fact you didn't need medial attention at the time suggests it wasn't severe. Good advice to carry antis with you t all times. It doesn't sound like you need an epi pen, obviously if you take
the antis and it doesn't work or next time yyou have a reaction it gets worse go back. When I had my referal with immunological consultan, the advice was, same carry antis, no epi pen needed.

A few years ago my partner had an allergic reaction which resulted in his whole head swelling, antihistamines had no effect and we ended up in A&E. He was given a referral to an allergy specialist but to be honest it was a waste of time. They did the skin prick test for the usual suspects, all of which came back negative, the allergist said it was like finding a needle in a haystack and just because you react badly once does not mean you will react the same way if you come into contact with that allergen again. He takes antihistamines daily for his allergies but has never had another bad reaction since. Like you he was quite shaken up at the time and nervous about it happening again but this went with time.

Breathing difficulties and throat swelling seem pretty serious to me!

You might want to have a google for the NICE guidelines on allergy care and management. If you feel you should have been referred to a specialist, these will help you if you want to push for referral. If you get no joy from the first doctor you saw, maybe try to see a different one?

It seems to me that you have a growing list of allergens, and while you were lucky this time, you may need further help the next time it happens. Better to have an epipen and not use it, than to need one and not have it...

Go back to your GP and demand a referral. Your symptoms are serious and you need to see a specialist.

I thing its due to the change in weather condition.You should take antibiotics and should take extra food to improve your immune system.Its very important to get safe from the changing weather conditions.Some people are very specific from the some food and they get allergy after taking such kind of food so you should also take into account this thing as well.

I've been to the allergy clinic and had confirmation of a (new) allergy to paracetamol and codeine. However, they have said that I don't need to have an epipen (despite needing to go to A&E for immediate treatment twice) because I'm unlikely to take paracetamol or codeine accidentally.
