My dd has her appointment for December after having an allergic reaction to egg. What can I expect to happen? How long will it take?

They will take a detailed history about what she's eaten when and what reactions you've noticed etc. They will most probably do skin prick test for egg and anything else you suspect she may have reacted to. They will write on her forearm to mark what they're testing in each spot, a put a drop of allergen next to the 'label'. They will then make a little scratch on the skin to allow the stuff to get in properly. They will then wait a bit and check whether theres been a reaction (shown by a nettle-rash like weald) and measure it to get some idea of the strength of the reaction. Both of my children were completely unfazed by the whole process. That's been my experience - very similar in two different clinics, but others may have different tales to tell.

My ds also got appt at allergy clinic. Gp said probably pinprick tests.
Will go in with list of what he ate on day of severe reaction but still not clear what caused it. Guess will have well scratched arm unless hospital think obvious 'suspect'!

Also, you need to make sure your child has not had any antihistimines for a few days before hand, as this can alter the skin prick tests. They should provide you with a guide on the appointment letter.

We were there all morning! Detailed history with specialist registrar, then skin prick tests, blood tests and a meeting with dietician, all interspersed with extra consultations with the registrar!
