DP's face swollen up?!?!

So im say at home earlier this afternoon and DP walks through the door asking if he looks different. I turned to look at him and saw that the left side of his face had completely swollen up into one big lump at the top of his cheekbone near his jaw. He said its causing him pain as well.

He hasn't eaten anything out of the ordinary and hasnt banged his face. He had mumps when he was a teenager and he said that this is how it started although he feels well in himself. Also apparently if you've had mumps you can't get it again, does anyone know if this is true?

I'm a bit worried about him and our 17 week old DD as she hasn't had her mmr jab yet. I've told him he needs to go to the hospital especially if it's sore but he has said its not urgent and will see if it will go down first.

What does everyone else think?

could it be a dental abscess?

Flosie1989 · 02/09/2012 14:44

Well that's what I suggested but he said his gums and teeth feel fine. He said the pain is more in his cheek/face. He said it feels like a stretched type of pain.

I had a dental abcess, and the first I knew about it was waking up one morning to a very swollen face. Prior to that, no toothache of any kind at all. Once swollen, my face hurt like hell though.

I think emergency dentist might be in order. There shoukd be one available as part of your local OOH service.

Has he been bitten/stung by something?
I suppose he could try some anti-histamine or similar and see if it helps? If not, then dentist/docs

I don't think he could have been bitten/stung as when I saw him in bed this morning at 8ish he looked fine and then he went back to sleep for a bit longer, woke up fine again. It kinda just come from nowhere.
