Nutramagin

My dd is 18 weeks old and has been prescribed nutramagin. I have heard that it isn't nice and children have a hard time taking to it. I would be very grateful for any advice from parents who have used this and how they experience was. Thank you

My DD was allergic to it so she got prescribed Aptemil Pepti instead. Smells like milk is meant to smell and she took to it straight away

Ds1 started on nutramigen about the same age. I tried it neat initially -wasn't keen. Mixed it with his previous milk 20/80, then 50/50, then 80/20 then 100% nutramigen. I spent about 2 days on each 'mix' I think, but that's only because he started liking it, so upped the nutramigen fairly quickly as I knew it was the better milk for him to have to start relieving his problems.
If they take it neat, go it!
The younger they are when they start it, the more likely they are to take it, as they don't really know any different. It's more of a problem if they are older when they're diagnosed (>6/7m as weaning has most likely started & their taste buds developing).
Perseverance is the key though, as you have to give them something. If you're not still bf, then a proper formula is probably the only way to go. So stick with it, they won't starve themselves, they will learn to take it in the end.

Please do not taste it yourself though, it is vile to us. Once they take any of these types of milk, (they all have their own quirks) they quickly learn to love them. So just smile sweetly & pass it over!
I think once they've realised they don't feel ill when they drink, they decide it's a good thing & start guzzling it!
Good luck!

Totally agree with hwhite, perseverance is definitely the key! We did the same thing, mixed it with DS's previous formula, starting with quite a small amount of Nutramigen and gradually increased it until he was taking just Nutramigen.

Both my dc are on this and take it fine.
It does stink but you get used to it IMHO.
It works for my 2 but I think a lot of the time it's trial and error.
Hope your little one feels better soon

Thank you everyone for your replies. I will try it neat and if she doesn't take it will mix it up for her. Hopefully she will be ok Smile

I saw a dietitian and she suggested we add a drop of vanilla extract. It worked and I have now weaned Jack off the VE and is taking the nutramigen with no problems . You must use the expensive vanilla extract as it's natural unlike the essence . Good luck xx
