Coeliac - my children STILL haven't seen a dietitian...it's truly shocking.

Hi there
my children were diagnosed with coeliac earlier this year. It's been months now and only last week we saw a gastroenterologist (they hadn't seen anyone for months after their diagnosis, which reached us via a rushed phone call).

The gastroenterologists said we should have seen a dietitian months ago, he apparently emailed them again but still we've had nothing.

I am really upset because my boys are ok and doing fine but they have had months and months with nobody seeing them or checking we are doing the right things, we have been left completely to our own devices. Of course we are responsible parents and following a strict diet but it makes me angry and I shudder at the thought that had we not had the internet we would be completely lost and scared and would have probably done all the wrong things. What should we do?

If you're in the UK, might be worth contacting the Coeliac UK helpline to see if they have any suggestions about how to speed things up?

TBH, the only dietician visit I got was less than useless. She recommended things that were not GF (like rice krispies) and had nothing insightful to add.

CD is something that largely you just get on with and manage yourself. In many areas theres no after care at all as theres not a lot they can do - you either follow the diet or don't

I would ring the dietetics department yourself and ask to speak to someone. It is really awful that you haven't had an appointment yet. I have to say our dietician has been great and I can phone her up any time for advice. Don't stand for it!
