Just waiting for the doctor to call back. Woke up in the middle of the night with sore throat, blocked nose and stomach cramps and had difficulty sleeping. Seemed a bit better after some Nurofen and was just a bit coldy this morning so thought that was it. Later on today she's complained of an itchy foot and her lips have swollen, she's shivery and hot to touch. We've given her some Piroten and spoken to NHS Direct and now waiting for the doctor in our area to call us back. Any advice? Really worried :(

Poor sausage. An uneducated guess, a nasty virus (I recently had something practically identical we were that close to calling an ambulance Blush)

She may well be having an allergic reaction to the virus. Its not uncommon.

O/T you have a familiar username, did you have the same/similar in Bounty? If you did, we know one another. If you didnt, please ignore this last paragraph.

Hello StarryEyedMama

Your poor and poor you too.

Does she have allergies anyway? My DD does and I've never known her to have a high temp whilst having an allergic reaction so as Norty says, maybe it's just as a result of a virus.

I can't really offer anything else other than to say that you've done everything you can do to help her. I hope NHS Direct get back to you soon, but if you're at all worried or concerend (more than you were when you posted your thread) you could always take her to A&E.

take care and fingers crossed you both get a good night's sleep. xx

I would say straight to the hospital. hoping you've already done it. I had this and in the end my face swelled really badly. I just made it to the hospital in time before my breathing was affected. Hope dd is ok and please let us know how you all are x

If swelling worsens at all, 999 for ambulance.

Hello Starry. Just wondering how your DD is this morning? And you too? Hope you're both ok.

xx

Thanks to you all for your concern. The paramedics ended up coming out as DD was complaining that her throat felt tight. We ended up going to the hospital to be checked over and came home about 11pm last night. Doctors had no idea about what had happened but definitely thought it was an allergic reaction to something she ate, just not sure whether it was the night before or yesterday.

DD had a good sleep and woke up looking and feeling a lot better, although I made sure she had one more dose of Piriton as her lips still looked a bit puffy.

We just need to keep a close eye on her and what she eats from now on and hopefully it won't happen again!

Gosh, that sounds stressful. Hope she's ok now and that the swelling went down.

Have you spoken to you GP about it?

Sometimes what looks like an allergic reaction could actually be Viral Urticaria, where, hives and swelling appear after a virus. So if your DD has had a cough/cold the mast cell under the skin that release histamine, get confused and react with the antibodies produced to deal with the virus the next time. I've been to A&E with my DD (who also has allergies) with this and the A&E staff didn't even look at that option.

As your DD experienced the reaction in her throat it might be worth speaking to your GP to see if it is worth having Epipens, just in case, and also to be referred to a pediatric allergist to have her tested for the main allergens. They would also help you with any protocols that you need to give to that your DD might need at nursery/school etc.

Take care and fingers crossed your DD doesn't have another episode of this.
