Why does DD pick up every bug going? Should I be doing something to help her?

Hello.

DD seems to pick up any bug that is doing the rounds and has just had another week off nursery. :(

She wasn't at any childcare setting before she started at the nursery last September so I don't know if this is normal or whether she is more prone to pick up things due to the fact that she has multiple allergies?

She is due to start FT school in September and I'm worried about how the school will be if she has as many days off as she's had since September.

I've been thinking about this for a while and it's worrying me so I thought I'd ask on here as there's always lots of good advice and support. Is there anything I should be doing to help her somehow?

Many Thanks in advance.

DCs always get lots of bugs when starting nursery, but multiple allergies mean an over active immune system, so many of the symptoms are your DC's body aggressively fighting new germs and ejecting them from the body. It gets better by the time they start school.

Thanks inmysparetime. It's good to know it's normal and I really hope it does get better by September.

I was wondering if i should be doing anything to help boost her immnue system.

IME most "immune boosting" stuff is hokum, keeping as much of a balanced diet as possible is best.
Also, quite a few multivitamin tablets have lactose and gluten in, so not usually worth it.

in the longterm your kid will be very healthy and rarely get colds etc.

they get about 8-10 a year under 5yrs.

DS gets lots of bugs and, for me, the most annoying thing is that he won't eat wheat or soya when he is fighting a cold or tummy bug.

I don't think there's much we can do to avoid our children picking up bugs. Some children just seem more prone to it whether or not they have allergies, so don't beat yourself up about this Smile

Thanks everyone. i just wondered if she takes longer to get over stuff because she has allergies. i know kids do pick things up when they first start nursery or playgroup.

Its funny how with a reaction to something as simple as food her immune goes mad and responds quickly yet when she picks up a bug her immune system seems to just sit back and let the bug settle in and get on with it.

Allergies are curious really as well as a pita.

Thanks again.
