Handwash for eczema sufferers?

MegBusset · 17/05/2012 17:07

DS1 has moderate eczema on his hands (among other places) and normally just washes them with water. (He has Oilatum in the bath.)

He is going on a school trip to a petting farm next week and I'm a bit concerned about E Coli etc if he doesn't use soap. Has anyone found a soap substitute that doesn't irritate eczema?

Hi, DD and DS have Dermol which the doc prescribes.

Yes, my DD also has Dermol :)

Epaderm can also be used as a soap substitute, if you have it.

ChocaMum · 18/05/2012 13:15

Dermol lotion or E45 hand wash is what we use.

freefrommum · 18/05/2012 13:16

Dermol 500 is great. It comes in handy pump dispenser and is anti-microbial. My DS keeps one in school for handwashing and at home we use all over instead of soap.

Does anyone know if you can get Dermol 500 in small bottles? I decant from the 500ml bottle into a travel bottle, but it would be handy to buy it in a smaller size.

Sorry for the hijack, OP.

i get oilatum soap bar from boots, or E45 children's hand wash - it has little red and blue beads in it which they love Grin

ChocaMum · 20/05/2012 19:39

Sorry Purply but I have no idea because I do the same thing as you with the travel bottles.

freefrommum · 21/05/2012 09:05

Don't think so Purply, I do the same as you and decant it into travel size pump bottles. It is a nuisance.

PurplyWurply · 21/05/2012 14:23

Thanks ChocaMum and freefrommum - I'll just keep filling the travel bottles.

lilbreeze · 21/05/2012 14:30

you can get Dermol in small tubes as well as in a large pump dispenser

Thanks for all your suggestions! In the end I found a Doublebase handwash (we use the emollient gel on DS1) which seems to be fine :)
