I'm wondering if anyone knows where it is possible to buy the following (all dairy free)

  • coconut ice cream
  • coconut yoghurt
and even possibly small cartons (250ml) of UHT coconut milk to take into School or even nut milk varieties... We're trying to avoid soya

Waitrose do a coconut milk ice cream but to be honest it's not that nice. I prefer sorbet or freezing a banana and blending it with a little of your preferred dairy free milk. Yum and healthy. Tastes just like banana ice cream - really rich and creamy

Never seen dairy free coconut yoghurts but Holland & Barrett do dairy and soya free yoghurts that are made from pea protein I believe. Never tried them but I remember them being mentioned in other threads and spotted them in H&B recently.

I was also going to suggest oat milk or almond milk but not sure that either come in small cartons.

thanks for replys - I think I need to look at making ice cream and yoghurt really, but the waitrose one might be good to try to see if they like it - all hate the Freedom ice desserts

freefrom - thanks for yoghurt suggestion I'll have a look in H&B when I'm next in

babybarrister - ds used to take soya milk in small cartons to school and I've seen them in chocolate and strawberry too, we used to get them, boys like them but I need plain milk for school, I'll probably end up sending some in a bottle for them...

I have only ever seen rice and soya milk in the small cartons.

Kara do sell their coconut milk lunchbox sized cartons as well as the 1litre ones. I managed to get my local health food shop to stock the smaller sized ones.
I don't know what area you are in but in London this weekend there is a huge "Allergy Show" where lots of free from food makers/supplies sell their ware and offer freebies and tastings. This is where we first came across Kara last year and my daughter much prefers it to all the other milk substitutes.

Kara do a coconut ice cream that my DD loves, it's called smooze. I order it from allergy Essex. Is really handy because you can keep it in a normal cupboard and just freeze as many as you need the next day, so it doesn't take up all your freezer space.

dairyfreebabyandme · 17/05/2012 07:59

Yes, I've seen the Kara small cartons, as well, just this week. I've also seen coconut ice lollies in there called 'smooze'. You buy them in a box and stick them in the freezer, as and when. Swedish Glace produce soya based ice cream - if you're ok with soya. Sainos and Waitrose usually, Tescos too.

New ice cream based on coconut found today at the allergy show (we nipped in for the last hour of the day) Bessant & Drury LOVELY!! Vanilla, lemon, chocolate & strawberry flavours. They said they will be in some Tescos from 16th June but only in chocolate flavour. Otherwise their web site www.bessantanddrury.com/ can tell you where else to find them. They are worth it!

Thank you everyone - I ordered Kara coconut milk cartons on line Smile, now on the hunt for the ice cream - probably another online order. My mum bought me a yoghurt making set some dairy free probiotics and agar jelly so I think I should try making some coconut milk yoghurt and checking out H&B
Thanks and let me know if you spot anything else at the show!
