Testing food allergies?

My dh has a nut allergy and also had an egg allergy as a child (since grown out of), we have obviously avoided nuts and eggs for 2 yr old ds so far, but would really like him tested so we know if he has allergies too. Gp claims to have never been asked similar but will look into it. Just wondered what anyone else has done in this situation? Thanks :)

Slightly different situation for me, but ds2 had a severe reaction to peanuts a year or so ago, and while we were seeing his consultant at one

While we were seeing his consultant at one of his appointments we asked about getting ds1 tested. The reason being that he'd never had peanut butter or peanuts (he's autistic and hadn't eaten a large variety of food up to that point). They did a skin prick test for us and he was all clear
So they can do it but it may depend where you live etc.

Thanks for replying both. So if it transpires that it can't be done on the NHS, do I need to get the Gp to refer him to a private clinic or something? If we have to pay then we will have to do that. We need to know. Sorry if it sounds a stupid question!

I don't know sorry, ours was done on the nhs. I suppose you could ask your gp what your options are.

DH has nut allergy, but DS's nut allergy didn't show up until he was nearly 5, he had been eating nuts with no problems up until then.
