Tesco new free from chilled section

at 2.19pm I sent this email to Tesco.

My daughter has a dairy allergy and I used to buy pure cheese substitute in your XXXXXXX Tesco Extra. They stopped stocking it for some reason, despite stocking a vast array of other cheese. You can imagine my happiness when I recently received an email informing me that Tesco had their own free from range in the chiller. I visited the same store and was informed that the only item stocked was soya milk. I checked your website and another XXXXX store was listed as stocking it, I have just telephoned that store to be told they only stock the bean chilli. I was very disappointed with this and in fact have received much better from a much smaller Morrisons store, who have a comparatively large free from range. I shall be reporting my findings to the various parenting and allergies forums I use.

Tesco phoned at 2.21pm to apologise for misleading information and said they would contact the stores directly. However, I won't be holding my breath as I'm sure the latest Cathedral City offer is a bigger money maker for them.

Not to rub it in but I was amazed when I went into my local Tesco 2 weeks ago they had a huge (comparatively) section of free from in the chiller section - all completely new own brand stuff - different types of cheese, yoghurts, the new almond milk stuff and various other things. Unfortunately it was all soya based so no good for DS but it is a massive step forward. Perhaps it is planned for yours soon and they got ahead of themselves?

Well, a friend told me today that a she had been in a small store and had seen the same section you did. I went this afternoon and spent a small fortune. little yoghurt pouches in vanilla and chocolate, creme caramel, plain soft "cheese" sweet chilli soft "cheese" and a cheddar style that apparently melts well. I had to stop myself going overboard.

That sounds fab! Will have to go have a look in my local store. Especially interested in the cheeses.

Glad you found one. It was impressive, I think I may have even exclaimed and got a few weird looks!

Apparently Tesco are trialling it, so it's not being rolled out in every store. If you go on their FB page they were asking what stuff we want, so it's worth putting a comment on there.

I finally managed to get to a bigger tesco and spent a fortune on stuff from their chilled free from section. DS has only tried the cheddar style spread so far and the chocolate shake. The latter went down well, but he wasn't that keen on the cheese.

What does everyone else think so far?
