Hi everyone,
DS is 18 months old and has/ had a dairy intolerance (he had feed refusal, vomiting, bad nappies and appaling sleep).
I suspect that he is no longer intolerant to dairy as he can have it without vomiting or seeming in any discomfort. However, even small amounts give him terrible explosive diarrhea and associated nappy rash (I have been experimenting with small amounts of processed dairy).
I'm wondering whether what he now has is a secondary lactose intolerance because his body hasn't been used to processing dairy - I understand lactase enzyme is only produced on a supply-and-demand basis. He has been having soy-based toddler milk since about 12 months old on advice of paed dietician at the hospital. Prior to that it was aptamil pepti 2 which they declined to prescribe anymore because he could handle soy, grrr. So he has effectively been completely dairy free for 9 months.
If it is lactose intolerance, how do you get over it? Will he just have to put up with the diarrhea until his body starts producing lactase again?
And how do I know it's not still the CMP that's causing the problem?!
He has been discharged by dietician but I may contact her to see what she says.
