sitting and BLW

Hi, just a quick question regarding BLW. Does the baby have to sit upright unsupported or sit up right if on your lap/in a high chair. DD is 23 weeks now and I can't see how she will be sitting unsupported by 26 weeks, although she sits straight if I help her.

I think the recommendation is that the baby needs to be able to sit up in a high chair before you start weaning. I think. I haven't done this for three years and it's all a bit hazy!

Bump! I've got a 21wo and am starting to panic think about weaning too.

You might be better asking in one of the more general forums rather than allergies as you might get more responses. My personal point of view is that you could do it with baby on your lap perfectly well but might be easier to wait until they can sit in a highchair unaided. Depends on your baby and how ready they seem to be for weaning. If they seem really keen, it would be a shame to wait until they can sit up if they're not showing any real sign of being able to do that yet (although I would be a little concerned if they weren't showing any signs of being able to sit up at 6mths).

I'm not an expert on BLW, but am pretty sure the sitting up thing is so that babies' 'gag' reflux is in place and they can lead forward should they start to choke on a lump of something.

There's no hard and fast rule about when babies are ready for their first tastes of food. Some are sitting up merrily at 5 months and desperately trying to grab food from mum's plate. Other's are still not sitting up unaided at 7 months and still show no particular interest in food.

I agree that you might get more detailed advice on another board...
