HELP!!!!!!!!!!! Vitalite Dairy free says allergens:milk on side?

really? isn't milk dairy?

It's a printing error on the pack. Someone on here emailed or phoned them and they are making site the next batch is correct.

There was a thread on here recently about this. I think someone phoned their customer services who said it was a mistake. Just a minute...

Ha ha about the race to provide info! I got advised on my other thread to use it and then panicked. Rang DS friends mum who says vitalite is fine - didn't tell me it's a printing error though!!

Apparently he is also being introduced to small amounts of dairy (intolerance not allergy) so I guess that makes the worry about accidental ingestion a little less.

I do however have soya milk, vitalite, dairy free part baked rolls (to make garlic bread) and doing pasta and meatballs, and have made dairy free cupcakes and shortbread.

I have had this lad for playdates before (2/3 hrs after school) but a whole day really is a different kettle of fish - just trying ensure nothing is out of bounds and he can eat the things 7yo boys stuff their faces full of usually eat all day! without denying him iyswim?

I noticed back in November on the ingredients list of Vitalite Dairy Free that it contains lactic acid and indicates that milk is one of the allergens in it.

OK so they've told a caller that the "allergens: milk" is a mistake, however, that's very remiss of them.

It doesn't change the fact that lactic acid is still an ingredient, which presumably is derived from dairy products.

Lactic acid is not derived from dairy, although lactic acid starter culture can be. It is listed at the bottom of the page on this link as something that people are often confused about, because people assume anything with "lact" in it is dairy:

That's crazy, a friend of mine who has a milk intolerant baby was asking about the same thing just last week! At the time they didn't risk it but have been worried that their baby isn't getting enough calories as so much non diary stuff is quite low fat.

Lactic acid is only very rarely derived from dairy as bonestable has said. One of Vitalite's selling points is that it is dairy free, so they wouldn't use a dairy source of lactic acid.
