Does this look like eczema?

Hi! I used to be on here a lot as my 3 year old DD has eczema, asthma and food allergies, but then DS came along just over a year ago and I had time to visit less. My joy at DS not being atopic was short lived when he was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes in July at 9 months old. So now I'm trying to get a handle on that instead, with the odd overnight hospital stay for DD's asthma just to keep things interesting!

Anyway, looking for a favour for one of my diabetes mailing list friends. Her 18 month old son started coming out in an itchy rash on his back a couple of months ago (not sure whether it is in other places too). It's flared up four times in the last month and her GP has told her it is a bacterial infection and given her antibiotics, fuciden H and a wash. From the photos on my profile, I think it probably is eczema. The GP has already said it is not eczema. Can somebody please give me a 2nd opinion? Note that the rash started following a nasty illness (suspected viral meningitis) and I'm wondering whether this might have been the trigger.

Thanks for your help.

my DD gets a rash similar to the pic pretty much evert time she has a virus (keeps being sent home from school incase she is contagious -her trunk is covered but doesn't seem to affect anywhere else) however my DD2 has eczema that was treated as flea bites, impetigo and some weird tropical disease before someone with some common sense sent her to see the dermatology unit where she was diagnosed with eczema Hmm

if it isn't responding to treatment after 4 months i would advise your friend to ask for a referal to dermatology :)

Thanks workshy. That's very helpful.

My friend has emailed me a couple more pictures which I've added to my profile. It now looks less eczema like than I at first thought (or at least less like hte eczema my DD had as a baby). Does anybody else have any thoughts as to what the rash might be?

Thanks

it looks to me like ds1's molluscum did when he first got them - almost chicken poxy. but if it's coming and going then i would have thought it must be eczema....

dd's eczema goes from the whole spectrum of random red spots to crusty yellow patches to bright red inflamed skin from one day to the next and various GPs had 'diagnosed' it as impetigo/ringworm/fungal etc, before agreeing that no, it probably is just eczema after all.
