what milk would you give a CMPA 2yo who might also be sensitive to gluten?

Hello everyone

What alternative milk would you think is best for a 2yo who is allergic to cows milk protein, but might be sensitive to gluten as well?

I was giving her organic oat milk with calcium so far but it looks like there is a small amount of gluten in it. DD has been tested negative for gluten but it is possible that she has a sensitivity to it anyway.

I was thinking rice milk also fortified in calcium - but I know it's usually not given under 4 (very low fat + traces of arsenic...).
I don't want to use soya milk because of all the controversy...

What would you think is best?

I think soya milk for a 2 yr old girl would be absolutely fine as long as you know that she's not allergic to soya too. Soya milk isn't recommended for children under 1, especially boys because of the phyto-oestrogens but can't see any reason not to give it your DD. Personally I would be a lot happier with soya milk than rice milk given the arsenic thing. My DS is 4 and has been on Neocate since he was a baby. Was your DD ever prescribed a milk substitute like Neocate or Nutramigen?

Kara fortified coconut milk?

I really, really do not want to rain on your parade but when you say she may be gluten sensitive, do you mean she may have coeliacs?

I was diagnosed with coeliacs disease recently and have been told to avoid oats also (there is a big argument raging currently about whether oats are OK,as their protein is similar to gluten).

Something to talk to your doctor about, maybe?

I'd talk to your paediatrician. DD is CMP allergic, and there is a query over gluten. Her consultant has said oat milk is ok, but soya isn't.

Thanks all. The Kara coconut milk would be great but I live overseas and its not available here.
Casserole why would oats be ok if gluten isn't sure? and why not soya? is she also allergic to soya?
Freefrommum She is (I suppose) "too old" to start neocate now, at 6 months she never accepted it and I breastfed til now...
barbarianmum DD had been tested negative for wheat at blood and prick tests which negated the risk of celiac disease, but I'm getting worried she might have a sensitivity (ie not allergy), which would be just like her dad, and I won't see her allergist until next March...
