Anyone know if there are still issues with junior epipen availability?

DS's runs out at the end of this month. Was such a hassle trying to find any last time, so was wondering if anyone hasbeen prescribed an alternative?

I didn't realise there was a problem , ds' runs out soon though.
He has very nearly grown out of the junior one now though..if I could remember the weight limit.

We had a huge problem about 3 months ago. So would advise giving yourself a long lead in time.
We ended up getting prescribed an Anapen to tide us over' until the Junior Epi became available.

We had major problems just before Christmas which is why I'm asking.

I'm so annoyed as I thought the expiry date was July 2012 when I got them, but nursery have just informed me that it's actually July this year that they expire.

BB you can have DS's expired ones to stab people in the bum with that pretend to have allergies!

Sorry for the late reply but hopefully I'm of some help. There were issues with the stock of epipens at the end of last year because the company that use to make them are making a new type so discontinued making more epipens. But another company bought epipen earlier this year so they are readily available again. I've recently had to get 2 new junior epipens for my DD and I've had no problems.

It is actually a good thing that the old company are making a new one because the new adrenaline pen will be able to kept at all temperatures (so leaving it in the car and sudden heat waves won't be an issue) and also when used the needle will return into the device, unlike current epipens.

Yes please do all check your epipen dates, you never know when you will need to use one :(

Good to know just renewing the home and school pens was a pain last time certain shops offered pens that had two months on them

Just been to the Dr's to get sons eippens renewed, and find out from the chemist that there is a manufucturing problem and don't know when the supply will be available. I wish information was available earlier, now got to go on a hunt for any chemist that will have a supply.

Just to let you know that I had no problems getting the epipens this time. GP would only prescribe 2 though. Only July 2012 expiries though. BB you win!!

Yay got ours they run out August 2112 and are in school ready for the new school year.
Thankfully Gp has no probelm with us having more than two. Two that go out with us at all times two that stay in the house and three at school two for the class room and outings and one for the hall.
Lets hope you can get them when you need them

My DS has the 'normal' epi-pens. 2 expire October (he only got them Feb!) and the other 3 next April.

I have an NHS chemist near me, Not sure how its NHS but is brilliant. They have said if I go in a month before they expire they will ensure they have them in stock for when my prescription is ready.

When I had to get the extras for school I was in supermarket and asked if they had and could dispense epi-pens. 'yes says the pharmacist', so I give her prescription and she says she'll call when they're in - up to 3 weeks. T'was a bugger getting back the signed stamped prescription to go to my local one. Teach me to try and do it whilst shopping to save time.

Do the epi-pens go on weight and height then? Is that why they have junior ones?
