Eczema -Fingertips

DH has suffered from this for a year.
Its onthe fingertips only. They dry up and peel and at times the skin is very raw. It never goes away.

He has tried all steroids, antibio ointments he could get prescribed to no avail and found only one hand cream (laroche posay xerand) to alleviate the dryness and cracking without stinging and aggravating the problem.
He cuts himself constantly doing the simplest things. Feel really sorry form him.

Any experiences?

Tks

Sounds more like contact dermatitis than eczema to be honest. Does he have a manual job where he comes into contact with potential allergens such as cement dust, engine oil etc? If so, this could be the cause and he should think about wearing gloves. Does he wash the dishes or have his hands in water a lot? If so, make sure he always wears rubber gloves - water is the worst thing for drying the skin. I would also suggest not using soap and changing to a special hand & body wash like Dermol 500 which doesn't dry the skin. Another good tip is to apply lots of cream before bed and then go to sleep wearing cotton gloves to keep the moisture in - not very sexy I know, but it does work!
