Has DD got an egg allergy?

DD is 16 months she has had scrambled eggs before with no reaction, however she had some for her tea and she didnt really eat it, more played with it and spread it on her body. Where the egg touched her skin she came out in big red hives. Is this an egg allergy? How could it effect her skin on contact but be ok when eaten?

DD has egg allergy. Consultant we saw told us it's really common to have no reaction on first exposure & react on second (that's what happened to DD). Probably best to have her tested as I guess the fear is that the reaction worsens.

DD being retested next month at age 2

Sadly that does sound like an egg allergy. Sorry. My dd1 didn't react on her first exposure (she ate scrambled egg) but did on her second.

It's very common to react on skin contact.
My dd2 (who is also allergic to milk as well as egg) reacted whereever the milk touched her skin.

Has your dd eaten egg baked in cakes or anything? It's fairly common to be able to tolerate egg baked (the culprit protein breaks down) but not lightly cooked. But don't try this yourself- do it under medical supervision.

I would ask your GP to refer you to a specialist.

In the meantime, my only advice would be if it does turn out to be an allergy, there's lots of advice on here about things to avoid and things to substitute egg with. PLease do come back if it is an egg allergy and ask! I don't want to bombard you too much right now, although I'll happliy advise if you would like.

It is all do-able though ;an an egg allergy is not too restrictive. I know it may not feel like that now, but it does become second nature.
