daughter of friend at nursery is 5mo, she has been ill for a week, vomiting and dioahrrea. She has been on the same milk for 3 months, so is it unlikely that she's allergic to it??

doctor said she's only to have baby rice and water. not milk, but she's starving so her mum gave her some milk last night, dd brought it up an hour later.

doctors confirmed its not a virus infection (so does not seem to have picked it up from nursery?)

anyone heard of this before? just though a whole week is a long time and her mum seems very upset.

pls help?
thanks kate

It is possible for an allergy to build up to a "reaction". My ds had formula for one week before turning bright red and swelling slightly. Same day he had nurofen which contains wheat starch and he is also allergic to wheat so the combination set him off. Is she on solids?? Has mum given her a new food to try?? Surely a 5mo needs some sort of milk even if goats formula or soy formula?? There are formulas to suit allergy for cows milk that can be prescribed. I don't know much about them but hopefully someone will come along with more advice.

A baby should never not be given milk some of these docs are crazy you should give rehydration drinks too. babies and kids always seem to pick up bugs could be a hygeine thing in the nursery I knew someone who had an au pair who didnt wash bottles properly and the babies triplets ended up with gasto bug its not aptimal the milk is it as I have heard of lots of babies being ill with it

I know after a gastric upset some babies can develop a temp intolerance to dairy products/milk , my dd had this and we used goats milk products, although my dd was a healthy toddler.
