Hot Cross Buns

I've just tried the Dan Lepard HCB recipe on the MN homepage. I substituted soy milk for cow's milk, sunflower spread for butter, 2 ice cubes of apple puree for the egg. They have come out a treat - just thought I'd let you all know.

We don't have to do gluten free but there is much discussino around that on the chat page linked from the recipe page.

It makes me feel better, having accidentally made my LO's porridge with cow's milk this morning even though he has been allergic since birth. The first time in 3.5 years - I blame sleep deprivation caused by his little brother!
He said 'this tastes funny mummy' and got his allergic face on (pale, downcast, pushes bowl away). He said his mouth hurt so I think he's still reacting, but no hives seen, so maybe that is some kind of progress.
Happy Easter everyone.

oooh, sounds fab, thank you!! We just need dairy free, but that sounds really good and I really like the idea of the apple pureé!

MrsShrek, the M&S apple & cinnamon hcb are milk free and 2 for £2 at the mo too!

Wow, I'm impressed that you made your own hot cross buns! Hope your DS is now fully better.

I'm sure making your own is much, much nicer, but the Co-op and Sainsbury's both do hot cross buns that are egg and milk free, just in case anyone else is looking for some.
