Allergy Testing

My niece is 19, she was hospitalised with an anaphylactic reaction to a brazil nut when she was three. She's carried an epi-pen ever since then - fortunately I don't think she's ever had to use it (I guess brazil nuts are easier to avoid than many things). She's always been troubled by more minor allergic reactions and recently these have been happening more often and getting more nasty. Yesterday she was having a problem and so went to see her GP, today she's posted this on her Facebook
"Right so I cant have an allergy test unless I keep a food diary..but nothing would show up in a food diary because knowing i'm allergic to cinamon and walnuts..i'm not gunna go eat them just to write it in a book just to keep the NHS happy because it would just result in a trip to hospital. Someone help??? :'("

Any suggestions anybody?

Try/change to another GP -they appear to be treating her like an imbecile. Alternatively if she doesn't get anywhere try going private (although I know this costs etc)

Has she spoken to the Anaphylaxis Campaign Helpline? They should be able to advise.

I've suggested she try the helpline first. Why are GPs often so unhelpful when it comes to allergy?
