Red blotches after bathing 5mo

My five month old has started getting massive red blotches on his back and sides of his stomach after every bath. It's only happened the last two times we've bathed him (never had anything like it before and we've not changed products). E45 cream seems to calm it down and after a day or two it disappears almost completely. It looks horrible and seems to almost look like finger prints - as though you can see where we've held him up to bathe his back. Any advice or suggestions as to what it is or what may be causing it?

Likely baby excema/dry patches? Our 16 month old had it on her thighs, collar bone, couple on arms, dryness mainly on back. Kept it nicely moisturised after baths and she has grown out of it, mostly.

use a natural bodywash/bubblebath and creams, nothing with mineral oil in it. Try PittaPatta or BabyBoo, if it gets flaky rub jojoba or sweet almond oil on to skin, good luck!

Yes - no sodium lauryl sulphate!
Aren't oats under a running tap when doing the bath good too?

I've just reviewed the following products, if it helps?

This happened to my 8 month old after swimming - and the Dr said it was eczema, just a mild dose.

If the E45 and other advice has curbed it, don't worry about seeing the Dr, I would think, but keep an eye out for behind the knees and inside elbows. Also, the patches can almost look symmetrical, that's another sign.

Bathing with a dash of Oilatum and a bit of cream from the Dr cleared DS's up in a matter of days.

HTH xx
