Possible Allergic reaction

Wondered if anyone can give me some advice.
My ds ( 8 ) came home from school yesterday with itchy red spots over one side of his face. This morning he has about eight of them just on his cheek. No other symptoms at all, just his usual cheeky self!
He has allergies to fur, mainly guinea pig and rabbit.Reacts very badly with swollen eyes, sneezing etc if he has any contact with these animals. Seems to be able to go near other animals without any reaction.
Sometimes he gets these spots at random places on his body, they itch for a few days then disappear.
He has never been allergy tested, but now I am thinking that maybe he should be. Are these spots likely to be a reaction to something? Do I just go to the doctor and they will organise it? Thanks for your help.

yes, yes and yes to everything in your last paragraph.
Oh, and if he's allergic to guineapigs, he could also be allergic to horses - those two allergies seem to go together, for some reason.

Are they really angry red spots - kind of small but very raised?? My DS allergy manifests itself this way so I would second what thumbwitch says - get him tested.

Thanks for your replies. Yes the spots are small red angry spots. They were very itchy yesterday, but they seem to have gone down a bit today. Will book him in at the doctors next week.
