antibiotics for eczema

My 5 month DD has eczema sores on arms, legs, back and all over face. I took her to the GP about a month ago and she gave us dermal cream and fucidin. Since then it got slightly better then plateaued and now worse and today I took her bac to the GP who gave us hydracortesone 1 and .5% AND oral antibiotics.

Does anyone else have experience of this? This is the second lot of antibiotics she'll have had. I am already finding it difficult giving her the steroids alone. I mean I will do it but do I have to do that AND antibiotics? That is a sort of rhetorical question BTW!

She has also referred us to the eczema clinics so thats good.

Hi there
You should oh need the antibiotics if the eczema is infected - normally because baby has scratched so much. Fucidin is an antibiotic cream so that would normally be the first step if there is infection with oral antibiotics if it's not clearing up. I personally would hold off antibiotic if no infection but if doc has prescribed then I guess there must be?

I feel for you and the little one - mine 7.5 months and her eczema more under control now but it's so horrid when you're trying to get it sorted. Try not to beat yourself up about the steroid - it's best to get the eczema under control and you don't have a strong one.

Great that you have eczema clinic referral it has been amazing for my DD

Good luck.
