DS1 seems to have developed reflux. Could this be connected to his milk intolerence?

Poor ds1 (age 5) is just having one problem after another just now Sad

He's been intolerent to dairy since he was around 2yo, this was after a particularly nasty stomach bug. We were slowly re-introducing dairy and had got to the point where he could tolerate everything except raw milk.

Then, he had a stomach bug at the end of November, followed by a flu like illness, an ear infection and another stomach bug around new year.

After the second stomach bug, it became obvious that he was no longer tolerating the dairy the way he had been before, so we had a couple of weeks dairy free and started introducing it again around a week ago.

He's been complaining recently about "being sick a bit into my mouth and swallowing it back down again" and also of a burning in his chest when he burps. He has been burping an awful lot now I come to think about it.

He's not normally a sicky child. When he gets stomach bugs, it's usually diarrhoea, and the dairy intolerence always manifests itself with runny poo and sometimes sore tummy.

So, it sounds a bit like reflux to me, but I am wondering if this is a seperate issue to his intolerence.

Does anyone have any experience of this?

sounds like reflux to me my 3 year old was diagnosed with acid reflux because he kept coughing but the medication didnt help because it wasnt reflux. should be easily treated though if you take him to your gp

ha ha sounds like us sometimes feel like a hypochondriac!! weve had croup eczema and conjunctivitis all in the past 2 weeks!!!

I don't have experience of this at all, but have heard anecdotally that intolerances can worsen after an illness (sometimes happens to a friend's daughter). Hopefully somebody more knowledgable will come along with proper information..

Good luck with finding the cause.

I agree greenbananas. DS1's intolerence definitely becomes worse after a gastro bug and we usually have to cut right back on dairy and re-introduce it gradually.

Right now, we are at having dairy substitues at home, but if we are out somewhere and there's nothing else, he can have dairy. It's hard for him to remember though Sad
