Prob will be fine, but what do I need to know in case ds2 reacts to amoxicillin?

DS2 is 9.5months and has a chest infection. Doc has prescribed amoxicillin. I told doc that I am allergic to penicillin and that ds1 is an allergic child (outgrown an egg allergy) and we always avoided penicillin with him just in case.

DS2 hasn't been introduced to any of the common allergens yet, so we don't know if he's an allergic child or not.

So, if he does take a reaction to the amoxicillin, can I give him piriton? I know it says 12months plus, but wondered if it's ever used for younger babies.

Obviously if he took a life threatening anaphylactic reaction, I would call 999.

Any other advice?

I am allergic to penicillin and both my DCs take it fine. Just give the penicillin carefully and watch out for a rash/other allergic reaction. It should be fine, but just watch him and make sure it is.

Thanks all. He had the first dose earlier with no ill effects, but I am aware that he prob wouldn't react first time. I will be equally wary with the next few doses.

I rubbed some on my own arm and had no ill effects. I am very tempted to try some and see what happens, but would feel a bit foolish if I needed medical attention.....I haven't had penicillin since I was a baby and apparently I had anaphylatic reaction, so not worth the risk I don't think
