My DH has nut allergy, never heard of a nut free marzipan. Can't imagine what they could make it from, marzipan is all/mostly mushed up almond.

For cakes we tend to just use lots of jam to stick the icing down. Not as squidgy but ok!

you don't have to use marzipan if you don't want to, just make sure you have a thick layer of apricot jam!

i can't imagine how you would make a nut-free marzipan as it's made pretty much solely of nuts!
that said, if there are nuts that he isn't allergic to i guess you could use them?

Since I managed to find a Vegetarian Black Pudding Shock I thought I would see if I could rise to the challenge of a nut-free marzipan.....

.....et voila a recipe!

thisisyesterday · 30/09/2010 18:19

good grief... what does veggie black pudding contain~??? and why did you want it? lol

prettybird · 30/09/2010 18:42

I was describing a starter I had made for a dinner party (a stack consisting of a slice of black pudding topped with a slice of apple gently caramelised in butter and with half a grilled goats cheese on top, with a drizzle of balsamic vinegar around it) - ironically enough, on one of the slimming threads on Mumsnet, and one of the other MNers said she was a veggie - so I found her an alternative! Grin

Oh - and it apparently contains beetroot and oats and barley IITC. No idea what it tastes like!

thisisyesterday · 30/09/2010 19:17

ahhh! it sounds ok actually, i quite like beetroot. i don't suppose it tastes anything like black pudding tho lol

We gave up on nut free marzipan and had a rich chocolate fudge cake with gold stars on it instead, lovely.

specialmagiclady · 24/12/2010 12:46

Have you tried searching for Persipan? It's a German marzipan substitute made of apricot kernels. God knows where you get it...

Butterbur · 24/12/2010 12:55

Aren't apricot kernals nuts?
