Coconuts and nuts. Same allergens?

I am very blessed that none of my family have any allergies to food. DD has recently started at a nut free school and wants to make some coconut brownies for her bake sale to raise money for Pakistan. I've tried to convince her that plain ones will be as nice, but she is adamant that they must be the special coconut ones. If you have a nut intolerant/allergic DC would they be OK with dessicated coconut.

Sorry, pressed send too quickly. That sounded smug and I apologise. I have a really severe allergy to penicillin.

Hi Kreecher, speaking from a personal point of view im allergic to coconut. But I'm ok with other nuts so dont no in that respect. I no a lot of people are shocked when i say im allergic to coconut but not other nuts.

I find it surprising how many thing have coconut in, even kids suncream its a nightmare.

I think it would depened on each individuals allergies whether they would be ok or not.

We've been told by our specialist that coconut is not a nut (tree nut or peanut presumably).

DS has nut allergy but ok with coconut. Hope that helps.

Brilliant, we can make the 'special' nut free brownies tonight.
