Gurgly tummy and farting - already on Neocate

Hi everyone

Hoping someone may have had a similar experience to me.

My son was diagnosed as lactose intolerant at 7 months old and has been on Neocate since he was 8 months.

While I don't want to complain since he is light years better than what he was back then, he still wakes in pain during the night with his tummy gurgling and pushing like he wants to fart.

We have an appt with our paediatrician again this week but I'm wondering if anyone else has had similar problems and has any suggestions for me??

Does he have any soya in his diet??

maybe there is something else that is bothering him too Sad

DD (2.7) had been on neocate since she was around 11mths for lactose & soya intolerance....

Hi Simpson

Thanks for responding.

Our paediatrician is now testing for coeliac disease (again - he had this test when they found the lactose intolerance)and we've eliminated wheat from his diet and things seem to be improving.

So I'm crossing fingers!

how is he being tested for coeliacs???

Am asking as my DD has just been refered back to pead (after being discharged in April Hmm) for testing for coeliacs too...

She has had the blood test which came back negative but I have heard it is not hugely reliable in small children...

Not braved it and gone wheat free yet as that would be a nightmare going dairy, soya, oats, barley & wheat/gluten free

I panic at the thought of it!!! Blush

He's had the blood test. Pretty sure it's the same as they did at 7 months old, so I've convinced myself it will be negative.

I've read about the difficulties with diagnosing too.

Met with our GP yesterday who said that even if coeliac's negative it could still be wheat intolerance, which they can do a blood test to diagnose too. So I guess that will be the next step depending on the coeliac outcome.

We removed wheat from his diet about a week ago now. So he's down to apple and pear for breakfast, and potato, pumpkin and carrot for lunch and dinner...poor baby :(

Am convinced she has a problem with wheat too Sad
