Camp Bestival with allergies?

Mmm - moment of madness, I suspect I'm dooming my son to living off crisps for a long weekend - anyone got any good ideas for lightweight camping food?

Been to Camp Bestival 2 years now and there is a lot of very good food available, cooked on site, so you can specify what you want left out for allergies, but it is quite pricey.

I always take a loaf cake (fruit, chocolate, malt, whatever) - it's not particularly healthy but it will last for days.

Loaf of bread and some cheese. Cold roast chicken. Take a cool bag and use freezer packs, wrap everything in foil - it'll last through Friday and Saturday.

Take some carrots and a peeler/knife for carrot sticks. Celery, peppers if your boy likes it. Boil up a load of new potatoes and take some salt & pepper. Good filling snack!

Tins of sardines, tinned peaches/pears are tasy for pud. You can even douse them in condensed milk! Again, not exactly healthy but then being outdoors all day and running around should make up for that!

We've just been to latitude, took our own little cooker so we could cook some food for allergic girl.

  • Tins of choice, ideally with a ring pull (we took spaghetti hoops, and dry pasta with a jar of pasta sauce)
  • Breakfast cereal decanted into a plastic container, with milk in a cooler - milk lasted most of the weekend
  • snacks, crisps
  • she also ate burgers, sausage and grilled sweetcorn from the stalls, it was all fairly easy really.
