34 hours sober

StartingOverIn2025 · 07/01/2025 11:00

I'm doing it. I have been sober for 34 hours. How pathetic is that to be cheering myself for, but it is the longest I have been sober in probably the last 6 months. I have downloaded a support group app, and have my first virtual group this evening.

I didn't hit rock bottom, but I want better for myself and my family. I can't let history repeat itself. My father was alcoholic too and it was pure hell. Solidarity to anyone else going through similar.

Well done @StartingOverIn2025 !! Everyday matters! I resonate with what you’re saying, on a course of 7 day strong antibiotics that you cannot drink on and before taking them I actually thought to myself how will I manage without wine for a whole week - which I’m accepting now is not a normal way of thinking and I need to take steps to be better.

This weekend coming will be the hardest for sure!! Solidarity 💪🏻

Great work. Think of your body starting to recover and heal. Make some plans now for the weekend and how you'll handle any difficult cues, maybe?

Alwaystired2023 · 08/01/2025 08:26

Well done OP! I also enjoyed the podcast Sober Awkward x

midgetastic · 08/01/2025 08:46

Oh great! And thanks for the update

55 hours under my belt! I slept a little bit better last night, and have woken up feeling a little brighter than I would normally. Not saying im out of the woods yet! Thanks for all of your support, it's really helpful to have you all cheering me on!

Amazing work. I'm impressed.

All power to you. We are all willing you on!

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 08/01/2025 10:08

56 hours now!

You've got this!

smileyplant · 08/01/2025 10:09

Well-done OP 👍 Keep going!!!!

cheekycee · 08/01/2025 10:11

Well done. Why wouldn't you be really proud of yourself for 36 hours?☺️ that's amazing and you're doing great. Well done to you and I pray for your healing and sending strength your way. I know you can and will do this. I believe in you☺️

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 08/01/2025 10:15

Just think, by midnight tonight, you'll be 68 hours sober, which is twice as long as when you started this thread!

theemmadilemma · 08/01/2025 10:17

Well done OP! That's a huge thing, bigger than a lot of people understand.

You can do it, we can and do recover. :)

MaryGreenhill · 08/01/2025 14:47

Keep going OP, you're doing so well 💪 😁

StartingOverIn2025 · 08/01/2025 17:07

65 hours - just did a mini shop in little Tesco and didn't pick up wine 💪

Feeling optimistic for this evening however I know there is alcohol in the house as DH received a couple of very naice bottles of whiskey for Christmas. I'm still feeling quite strong, but equally looking forward to those bottles being out of the way.

DH doesn't realise quite how bad things got, but I've said to him I'm doing dry January... (indefinitely).

I've downloaded a couple of the podcasts you guys have suggested, and I'm going to do the same tonight as last night - sleepy tea, skin care, crack on with Black Doves then bed with a Get Sleepy podcastSmile

Keep Going - this is a really key evening I think so it will be tough

Whiskey keeps - can you put it somewhere like a shed ? Or get DH to keep it in his car if he has one?

Unescorted · 08/01/2025 17:47

I am really pleased you are doing so well. Especially the Tesco top up I have so little will power when I go to a supermarket.

When I cut down on my drinking, I found early nights were ideal. Really helpful. I love them!

saveforthat · 08/01/2025 18:27

Well done op. I'm going to join you if that's OK? I've got into the habit of drinking every night and I now have several health problems that alcohol is definitely making worse. I've cut down a lot but decided tonight after reading your thread to cut it out altogether. Thanks for starting the thread.

I think he's ok to leave it where it is for now, I'm actually finding it helpful in a sadistic kind of way, because seeing it reminds me that I have a problem and that (currently) makes me double down. Plus I'm not massively keen on whiskey. If I find it makes me struggle I will ask him to lock it away.

Yes please do - the more the merrier! You won't regret it. Good luck and keep me updated!

@StartingOverIn2025 @saveforthat may I also join you, and congratulate you both?! Every journey has to start somewhere, I keep telling myself that.

I am heading into the 3rd evening with no alcohol tonight. So 70 hours in. I’m hoping for a good sleep as well. Last night was better than the night before. I’m looking forward to the next episode of The Traitors and then will head upstairs with my book which I’m enjoying. DH is also joining in, we both realised things were getting a bit out of hand. Wine each night, maybe some spirits, not violent or aggressive, not affecting work or the kids, but too much.

I just don’t know what to drink instead though! I prefer cold drinks but don’t really like anything too sweet and I don't much like the AF versions of things. I got some Teissere cordials today so I will see how that goes.

Keep going! The first steps are the hardest, we can do this xxx

Of course! We can all support one another. I don't really have many friends in real life so I'm finding this very helpful Smile

Calculate what you would have been spending on drinking and buy yourself a little present of some nice skincare this week.

Search for "relaxing rainy sleep ambience" videos on YouTube that you can fall asleep to.

Berocca to get a good dose of B vitamins to replenish what you've been depleted in.

Magnesium lotion to help with sleep and a nice pillow spray.

NoMoreOfThis · 08/01/2025 19:48

CBD drinks - my partner and other friends used this with great success to help them come off - look at the crates on Amazon to find the best prices.

Good Rays 30mg
Tripp 15mg

They are really nice and feel like a treat as well as being relaxing

Also look at fancy tonic waters and add fresh juices to them

ilovelamp82 · 08/01/2025 19:49

Not pathetic at all. Amazing! You should be proud of every milestone. Keep it up.

Thursdaygirl · 08/01/2025 19:57

Fantastic OP, you’re doing so well!

Beaverbridge · 08/01/2025 20:01

Good for you, I also second early nights. 🎉
