Dry January 2022

MyGhastIsFlabbered · 12/12/2021 09:25

Did Dry January this year and we had an amazing little support group going on here and I wondered if anyone cared to join me next year? This time I'm hoping to stay dry longer - 100 days - but will see how January goes first. I don't want to set myself up to fail.

Who's with me?

Ghast, I'd be tempted to go redder and maybe get a more defined and sleeker bob shape, if you can be bothered to straighten it.

Day 8 for me! Not really temped at all though DH has a bottle of red open. Looking forward to a clear head tomorrow

TheWildRumpyPumpus · 07/01/2022 20:32

Not had chance to catch up with the thread but checking in! It’s lovely that it’s so busy here, lots of support for everyone.

I’m happy to be at Day 7, and finally feeling better than at the start of the week. I’ve had awful constipation, headaches, spots as well - i felt worse than when drinking! Hopefully a sign that this is doing me some good and the break was obviously needed. I’m enjoying Hendricks 0% ‘gin’ and a few squares of dark chocolate when I want a treat.

Iamblossom · 07/01/2022 20:33

AF San Miguel is nicer than becks Blue I have concluded

MajorityofThree · 07/01/2022 20:36

@AlbertBridge

Like this.

I watched that whole series, 99% just admiring her hairstyle.

Love that
CrumpetswithMarmite · 07/01/2022 20:45

Wahoo day 7 is in the bag (nearly!) I'm past the hardest part. I really wanted a drink. So glad I had some chilled AF bubbles in the fridge. (belle & co Prosecco - very much recommend!!) it curbed the crave and now I'm sat with a cup of tea and chocolate. Going to watch something and have an early night.

Well done again everyone. I haven't made it this far in a very long time...

Part of my motivation has been realising how long it is taking my body to rebalance itself. I assume this will take at least 2 weeks tho I know the true benefits come at a month and beyond. The liver fact shared the other day really spurred me on!

NorthernChinchilla · 07/01/2022 21:16

Evening all...
A trying day- doing my job, which covered everything from recruitment, misconduct, audits and sorting a plan to try to prevent a possible suicide, all whilst DD bounced around the living room and watched bad cartoons...
Then had to race into town to get something vital for tomorrow, and would have really enjoyed a drink. But staying strong!
Trying to focus on nice stuff planned, like a bit of solo shopping tomorrow, which is AF.

MyGhast, I'd definitely go a bit shorter. How are you with a fringe?

guineapigs · 07/01/2022 21:17

Ugh there is AF Corona beer but I can't find it anywhere in uk. I have tried some AF beers but I don't really like them. I ordered Nosecco from sainsburies to try.

NorthernChinchilla · 07/01/2022 21:29

@KatieBenz sorry about the Covid too, that sucks! Does anyone else in family have it, or is it from work? Or a mystery?!

MrsJamieFraser22 · 07/01/2022 21:29

Day 7 and made it past the Friday danger zone. Tried the San Miguel AF I thought it was ok but had a bit of an odd aftertaste. Think I would appreciate it more on a very hot day. Just poured a glass of the M&S AF rose it’s a lot sweeter than the “real” rose I would usually drink it’s not unpleasant but I would describe it as tasting like flat schloer - wouldn’t rush out to buy more, might be nicer as a spritzer - will give that a go at some point. Hope Friday is going well for everyone & you have a good weekend - I’m looking forward to a long walk in the forest tomorrow morning (with no hangover) after isolating most of this week x

dementedma · 07/01/2022 21:38

Day 7 done. I had the Tanqueray 0% "gin" tonight too with tonic and lime. I didnt love it, but it quenched a thirst. Had two cups of herbal tea in the hope I might sleep a bit better. A whole week AF!!!

JaquiRussell · 07/01/2022 21:42

Day 7 completed. Managed to treat it like any other night this week and had my cuppa and lots of water. Suspect I might need to try the kombucha I've brought from Sainsburys tomorrow as a treat, but at the moment proud I'm not on the AF yet. Saving that for being in a pub or bar I think, but we'll see how we go.
Well done everyone!!

Badabingbadabum · 07/01/2022 22:09

MyGhastIsFlabbered I agree, a bit shorter, off your shoulders. If it is naturally a bit wavy it will look neat but easy to look after.

6 days no alcohol. This is the longest I haven't drank for in about three years. I don't look as puffy.

H1Drangea · 07/01/2022 22:36

Had another Pukka Nighttime tea , hoping for the same results as last night
Can’t believe it’s a week done already ✅

AlbertBridge · 07/01/2022 22:54

@H1Drangea I've just finished a mug of Pukka nighttime. It's absolutely delicious. Very like the Sainsbury's one. I love that lavender taste.

Hohofortherobbers · 07/01/2022 23:15

The AF mulled wine really hit the spot! I warmed it for 1 min in microwave and had it in a wine glass and really took away a craving for a shiraz. Its Belvoir winter punch, got it in Sainsbury's over Christmas

Lushmetender · 08/01/2022 00:23

Day 7 into day 8. Good job it’s cold outside and don’t want to do anything except watch TV. Only 24 days to go or longer ….

MagratLancre · 08/01/2022 02:22

Had a few drinks tonight and it's horrible I can't shift them so can't sleep until its out of my system. How horrid. Learning curve!!

Firsttimemummy33 · 08/01/2022 08:37

Very vivid dreams last night and woke up feeling slightly hungover again Alison pleased I got up early and not dossing about in bed

IcedCoffeeMilkshake · 08/01/2022 08:50

Last night was a white knuckle kind of day. I ate scones with real cream and jam until I got through it. Blush

MajorityofThree · 08/01/2022 08:53

Feeling rather smug that OH gone off to parkrun with a hangover (and it's cold and wet) very cross with himself and I'm feeling just fine. 😂 I had to get up early to take DS1 to station and knowing I could just jump in car with no hangover was great. I know full well that I will drink again but loving this reset. Eating way too much sugar and rubbish but I think one thing at a time. Day 8.... unbelievable. Happy Saturday

SantaMonicaPier · 08/01/2022 08:54

I managed to run out of tonic and don't like Nosecco on its own so was a bit grumpy without a 'special' drink last night but actually it was fine.

Earlybird00 · 08/01/2022 09:02

I was ready to cave but my husband has more will power and got us through! Going to try and eat healthily from today as have been eating too much left over Christmas chocolate and mince pies. I love being so productive in the morning. For anyone who has struggled don't give up completely there are still plenty of days in January to remain dry

HCHQ · 08/01/2022 09:11

Week one in the bag!

Feelin' smug! Grin

But yes, the sugar cravings, where did they come from? Usually very much a savoury person.

Liking the sound of the Belvoir Winter Punch as recommended up post

NorthernChinchilla · 08/01/2022 09:15

@MagratLancre
Firstly, love the name! When my Mum died, and owing to our love of Sir TP, and the similar illnesses they had died of, my husband bought us pin badges of the lilac to wear at her funeral. Are you her pre or post being Queen Grin?
Secondly, don't worry, sure most of us will wobble at some point, but leap back on the waggon!

I had a fab sleep... however my treat of shopping is going to be slightly less lovely than imagined owing to the fact it's pissing it down. May just do the bank today and shop tomorrow...

KatieBenz · 08/01/2022 09:35

Thanks. Ds3 tested positive on Tuesday and dh on Thursday, so no real surprise. Considering we’re triple vaxed and this is the supposedly milder’ omicron, it’s still a nasty little virus- feel wiped out.
