Dry January 2022

MyGhastIsFlabbered · 12/12/2021 09:25

Did Dry January this year and we had an amazing little support group going on here and I wondered if anyone cared to join me next year? This time I'm hoping to stay dry longer - 100 days - but will see how January goes first. I don't want to set myself up to fail.

Who's with me?

Joining too. I don’t drink much in the week and only really drink socially , but when I do go out for drinks I always seem to have one more than I should. So a dry January (and possibly longer) will hopefully be a good reset. Joining the thread is part of my strategy to help stay focused. Happy new year all.

Icecreamsprinkles · 01/01/2022 11:04

Feeling very rough this morning which is probably what I need. If I can just hold on to this memory. I stand a chance of doing Dry January. Was going to start Sunday but may start today instead . Looking forward to facing this challenge together on this thread. Good luck everyone we’ve got this (hopefully!)

Stoic123 · 01/01/2022 11:11

Morning!

Stuck to half a bottle of wine last night (rest down sink after I poured the second glass) as wanted to start 2022 feeling quite fresh. Ready for Dry Jan!

I did Sober October in 2020 after starting to drink a lot in lockdown 1. Issue was more one of frequency (i.e. daily) than excessive amounts each time - though added up to a lot (recycling days were embarrassing Grin). That was the first time I'd attempted a dry month and I found days 3-10 tough going (sugar helped). After day 10, the benefits really kicked in (Hello Sleep!) and I enjoyed the rest of the month. I did dry Feb and Oct in 2021 (one day slip up in Oct but got back on wagon). Consumption generally much lower since too.

Wishing everyone all the best!

StrawberryFizz26 · 01/01/2022 11:20

Morning all, here's to the 1st of many days AF.

I've drank almost every day leading up too and over Christmas and have stopped getting hangovers.

Ideally I'd like to do at least 6 months no booze however I know it's a day at a time.

I'm feeling very tired today and intend to do nothing. Ddog had a full on day yesterday so won't mind missing 1 walk.

I hope everyone is doing okay and wanted to wish us all good luck on this journey.

Lushmetender · 01/01/2022 11:55

Yeah feeling rough today! Hang onto
That for jan and beyond. Mouth like
A badgers arse!

Lushmetender · 01/01/2022 11:59

Meant to say sorry to elephantino. Lost my mum in December and she’d so want me to ditch the vino!
HNY!

notanothertakeaway · 01/01/2022 12:06

I'll join too. Thanks for setting this up

White wine / prosecco are my downfall. I don't drink any other alcohol. It's become a habit, gradually drinking larger amounts and more often

I think my approach will be to take one day at a time

Youngatheart00 · 01/01/2022 12:45

Feeling absolute crap today - was at a family party last night and obviously drank way too much. I just don’t have an off switch when I start drinking, which is why it’s a problem.

Dry from today. Just want the booze out of my system

Hohofortherobbers · 01/01/2022 13:03

Checking in day 1, drank far too much last night so looking forward to an early night and a deep sober sleep. Poured away half a bottle of red this morning and the remains of the brandy butter. Good luck everyone!

Atla · 01/01/2022 13:18

I'm in - starting today. Going to do veganuary as well but delaying the start of it because loads of leftover cheese to eat.

KatieBenz · 01/01/2022 13:44

I’m in, but starting tomorrow. I really need to do this as my wine consumption has definitely increased over the the last two years- I wonder why?🤔😉

JaquiRussell · 01/01/2022 13:50

Checking in, been listening to Sober Dave on Instagram this morning. He says about preparing something to do for craving times so going to dig out some books I've been meaning to read for a while.
Happy day 1 everyone 👍🏼

LCHF2018 · 01/01/2022 13:52

In Asia so it’s evening here- day one in the bag. Sat with a camomile tea having had a sofa day interspersed with a 90 minute hike with my Labrador. I usually find day one incredibly hard but was surprisingly ok - let’s hope tomorrow is equally temptation free. Had a few rogue thoughts about starting on Monday when I’m back at work but husband was having none of that fortunately (he is doing dry jan as well). Now need to sort the healthy eating out have eaten so much crap the last few days…

AFMe · 01/01/2022 14:23

Hi, happy to be joining you all. Had a few glasses of wine last night but not hangover-inducing, went for a swim this morning so feel that was a decent start to 2022. I did 20 AF days in December ( helped by isolating with covid!) but then drank a fair bit between Christmas and NYE, would like to do the month to lose my Christmas tum and reset my relationship with booze. Have realised I often drink because I'm bored so basically I need to get a life too! Have been stacking up the unread books and sharpening pencils to do some drawing.

chocciechocface · 01/01/2022 14:31

I'm in. Starting today.

Snoel · 01/01/2022 14:40

Me too. Feeling awful today and want to change my drinking habits for good starting with Dry January. Have attempted before but managed 28 days only. Determined to do it this year..

FoxglovesandBees · 01/01/2022 14:56

Checking in on day 1 after drinking the past couple of nights, hate myself for it. Really need to do this but really can't imagine life without my crutch and constant 'friend' Hmm wine.

@IcedCoffeeMilkshake my hair is thinning too, my GP has told me it's because of my alcohol abuse but still I didn't stop. Hope the support of this thread can help us all. Good luck everyone!

FoxglovesandBees · 01/01/2022 14:56

@Elephantino I'm sorry for your loss. This must be a really tough time for you. Take care of yourself Flowers

SantaMonicaPier · 01/01/2022 15:11

When I did this last year I found weekends hardest. I preferred a glass of Nosecco mixed with tonic to be a decent alternative to fizz. The Nosecco is really sweet on its own

Badmuthachuffa · 01/01/2022 16:40

I’m in. Day 1 today. Was careful last night so feeling fine and ready to have an AF January. Hopefully longer.

MyGhastIsFlabbered · 01/01/2022 17:05

I had the worst headache all of yesterday so didn't get drunk last night. Had some champagne and a gin but that was it. I feel a bit cheated that I didn't get a last 'swan song' of drunkenness - how sad is that? DH is trying to persuade me to start tomorrow as he says technically I've already drunk today. I don't know if I can be arsed either to drink or argue about drinking with DH. But I do see thing in black and white and feel that DJ won't count if I drink tonight.

Someone last year said that taking the stress out of worrying about whether to drink or not was bliss and I can see what they meant.

dementedma · 01/01/2022 17:15

Day 1 pretty much done. I know from experience that i will find it really hard to sleep for the first few nights so not looking forward to that.

makeusabrewwillyou · 01/01/2022 17:44

I'm in! How's everyone doing so far? No debating whether to drink tonight - decision made :)

Lushmetender · 01/01/2022 18:40

Checking in though I really do not feel like wine thank god! Tomorrow will be the real test!

Badabingbadatinselbum · 01/01/2022 18:50

We have only had a glass each left from the bottle which went into the beef in wine. My Pouilly fume which I chose for NYD was drunk with quite a few other bottles last night so neither dh nor I felt like drinking today anyway Blush. I am actually looking forward to a month of not drinking.
