Evening all.
If anyone is interested in quitting alcohol for 30 days ( in the first instance), please join us.
I've had a busy month ; Wimbledon, Football, birthday, anniversary and have drank way too much.
I've given up before and felt great so am trying again.

@Amdone123 great to hear I’m not alone in the cringing and flashbacks!!! Really makes me think why would I ever drink - but obv over the years this has happened so many times and I never truly learn. As you say We can’t change the past! And I’m trying to be a little kinder to myself about it all! I love how much your discovering about yourself! when I read through this post I could relate to so many things! Drinking from habit, drinking too much etc etc so I’m excited to have a break and see how I feel. Earlier in the year I was barely drinking (not that I drink that much now…. But obviously at times too much to get so hungover) so I’d like to get back to that place. Also totally agree- wine is the worst!!!!!!
Good luck on the rest of your journey! Can’t wait to hear xxx

Amdone123 · 28/07/2021 08:29

@Mj20, awh, thanks for that. Feel like I am finally learning something- I guess it's never too late.
I have friends who are teetotal and when I've asked them why, they say they've had bad experiences with it say 20 years ago. I have a bad experience with it every week and yet I still carry on !
No more !!! Grin

Morning, everyone. Am up early this morning, though I slept well again. Well, I'm feeling a bit ill. I think it's a summer cold. I had a test yesterday and it's negative. Fortunately I've nothing on for the next few days, so I'm just going to rest. No plans to drink/ smoke, as my throat is sore so that would just be stupid.
@Soberanne, how did the family gathering go ? Hope you did OK. @Mj20, hope you're feeling a bit better today. I find as the days go on and as life gets in the way, the anxiety begins to fade. Do you think this has put you off drinking for good ? Do you think you could abstain completely or is that too much ? I never thought I could abstain completely, drinking is quite a big part of my life, but I've been thinking that it definitely takes too much, so wondering on a daily basis if it's worth it.

Morning, sorry to hear your not feeling great. Family gathering went ok, i had one glass of wine and just didn't enjoy it. I immediately felt guilty. And this morning i feel horrendous so am a bit annoyed that even after one the anxiety is back. So I am going to just quit altogether. Not going to be easy as i genuinely feel i am missing something and tbh i dont really have much of a life outwith alcohol so its all a bit scary. After one glass the anxiety is back also. I have started the smart recovery programme as well

Amdone123 · 29/07/2021 10:30

@Soberanne, I know what you mean. I could never understand how people gave up completely but one thing about giving up completely is that you longer have the daily mental gymnastics, which are absolutely draining. Shall I drink? How many ? Say I can't stop ? What about the hangover? Etc etc....it can drive me mad.
Actually because I don't feel good, I haven't even thought about this weekend and what I'll be drinking, how much, etc. It's nice not thinking about it.

Morning all!!! Day 6- the time is flying!!!
@Amdone123 how are you feeling today?? So many nasty viruses around other than COVID! I was poorly at the start of the month with a cold! Hope your feeling better!?!
So… as you said… as the days have passed the anxiety has faded! I’ve had worst bouts of hangxiety before and it’s never made me completely stop drinking! But every time it happens I do seem to drink less and less. I do like alcohol but if I’m going to drink I can’t be having those hangovers/anxiety! So for now tee total feel fine and I’ll see how I go!
@Soberanne how are you today?? It’s crazy that just one glass can call she anxiety but when I’ve cut back before I’ve noticed even small amounts can trigger me! I hope your ok?

With it being the weekend I’d usually be planning some wine etc but my period started this morning and I never want to drink when I’m bleeding. So an easy, quiet weekend here.

Good luck to anyone not drinking/drinking mindfully xxx

Amdone123 · 30/07/2021 09:13

@Mj20, morning ! Day 6 already ! That's really good. I started the day after the football final and in that time I know I've had 1 bottle and 2 glasses of wine, so going pretty good. Yay, go us !
I'm feeling a bit better today thank you. Yesterday I felt like I'd been run over. I'm just tired today and a bit chesty.
Looks like we'll both be having an af weekend. I can't see myself drinking, certainly not binge drinking. Despite having this cold, I do feel better for not drinking as I knew I would. Have got 3 Zumba classes booked for next week, so looking forward to that. Each class needs an hour walk too so all good !

Sobriety won yesterday and this morning i feel fine which mean the dreadful one glass of wine hangover yesterday never lasted long. I am staying sober today as i am driving tomorrow so its easy to make that choice. How is everyone else coping.

Soberanne · 30/07/2021 10:47

Looks like a lovely sober weekend for all. @Amdone123 your self control is amazing. Your doing amazing.

Amdone123 · 30/07/2021 10:56

@Soberanne, thank you. So are you. I'm happy to be in control. One of my biggest hurdles will be when I go out ( with friends, not dh), but I'm determined to either dilute the wine with tonic or soda water or alternate with soft drinks.

youboozeyoulose · 30/07/2021 13:03

It's great to hear everyone is doing so well. I'm managing to moderate rather than give up completely which I'm finding easier by making my myself do things in the evening and if I do have a drink leaving it until later.

It's wine with dinner where it all goes downhill for me.

@Soberanne Well done on Wednesday. One glass is a total win and it's good that it's given you some clarity about how you feel about alcohol, even if that came at the cost of a hangover. I'm not sure it's possible to have any clarity when you're in the midst of drinking!

Amdone123 · 31/07/2021 17:20

Afternoon everyone, hope we're all OK. I know from experience that Saturdays = wine. Hope whatever you're doing, you're in control.
I've been so ill past 2 days. Absolutely floored. I've had 2 tests, both negative, so it must just be a cold. I felt terrible this morning like my head was going to explode. I've only been sleeping about 4 hours a night then dozing through the day.
Feeling a bit better atm thank god.
One thing I've learned is that I want to be healthy and energetic and drinking and smoking is not taking me that way. Fair enough when you're ill to have no energy, but to self inflict it seems stupid.

Soberanne · 31/07/2021 17:45

Hi @Amdone123 sorry to hear your feeling rubbish but yeah your right. When ill all you want is get better yet we choose to give ourselves hangovers.

Mj20 · 31/07/2021 18:25

@Amdone123 poor you being sooooo poorly!!!! I hope your better soon 😘 day 7 here and no intention to drink as I have awful
Period pain!!!! I’ve been thinking about my relationship with booze and I don’t want to completely give up but do want to moderate and not drink because of habit. So im hoping having this little break and reassessing will allow me to do that. Having a very diff Saturday to last week when I drank wine and Prosecco 🤣🤣🤣 hope your all doing ok xx

Mj20 · 31/07/2021 18:26

@youboozeyoulose your so right…. It’s the early drinking that’s the issue for me too!!!! X

Amdone123 · 31/07/2021 18:35

@Mj20, thanks.
I remember you saying about period pain. I would often drink, smoke then have period pains coupled with hangover.

Delightful Hmm
You're doing really well. I know what you mean about moderating. I don't want to cut it out completely. I'm a total foodie and I love cooking and eating healthily, and a glass of wine with it is lovely. Somehow though, over the years, it's got out of control.

I'm definitely going to change my relationship with alcohol.

Soberanne · 31/07/2021 19:43

Can i just ask what was the earliest you started drinking. I cant believe now that i thought it was ok too poor a glass of wine before 5 while cooking as i always said oh but i don't drink in mornings.

Soberanne · 31/07/2021 19:44

Thats why by 10 I had needed at least one or two bottles.

Mj20 · 31/07/2021 19:59

@Amdone123 do you only smoke when drinking??? After I quit smoking I would smoke when I drank and found I was drinking so Minh more! I fully stopped smoking 18months ago and noticed I started drinking less frequently xxx

Mj20 · 31/07/2021 20:00

@Soberanne usually I’d have my first drink at 7-8 but…. On the nights I over drink it’s defo earlier and I’m not as mindful. Xx

Soberanne · 31/07/2021 20:21

I am same, earlier i started worse it got but isn't it funny that when your drinking you just don't see the obvious

Amdone123 · 31/07/2021 20:35

@Mj20, yes, I only smoke when drinking. If I drank lager though ( which is rare), I wouldn't smoke. It's only with wine. If I had wine in the house but no çigarettes, I wouldn't start on the wine. My friend smokes with her first glass but I smoke after the first bottle so pretty much when I'm drunk. I really enjoy smoking when I'm drinking. I probably have about 5. I think it's 5 too many but some people, my dh for example, think this is ok. I don't.

Hi all.
Just wondering if I can join your thread?
I'm wanting to change my relationship with alcohol.
I'm your typical binge drinker, once I start I don't know when to stop.
Then suffer crippling anxiety for a week afterwards.
I don't want to keep going like this.
So would love to join you if I can.

youboozeyoulose · 31/07/2021 20:53

Hi @CH79 how are you feeling this evening? I have had a couple of glasses of wine but calling it a night now.

CH79 · 31/07/2021 21:03

@youboozeyoulose

Hi *@CH79* how are you feeling this evening? I have had a couple of glasses of wine but calling it a night now.
Hi @youboozeyoulose Im feeling good today. I had a night out on Monday & drank too much. Felt awful with anxiety for a couple of days.

I spent last night with a different friend & had made the decision that I would drink but I was determined to go steady. And I did. So I feel fine today, no hangover & no anxiety.

I'd like to be able to moderate my drinking, I don't know if complete abstinence is what I want or right for me at the moment.
But you all seem to be on a similar wavelength on this thread! Not judgemental.
