Well done everyone! Seems weird to think I've saved at least 100 quid! I might stay dry until Valentines Day.

OhioOhioOhio · 31/01/2021 22:55

Apparently month 2 our liver starts to repair. Month 3 we get loads of energy.

Well done everyone, what an achievement!

I had my night off on Saturday and it was a total disaster, I drank loads and spent most of yesterday in bed. Feel totally ashamed and very disappointed in myself. I think the first couple of drinks just made me feel sleepy so I drank the whole bottle so I could feel silly instead and then extra spirits because I didn’t want the night to stop. I’m not sure moderation is possible for me. Anyway I’m firmly back on the wagon for feb at least.

MyGhastIsFlabbered · 01/02/2021 07:15

Morning everyone!! Well we did it!!! In whatever shape or form we got through January mostly dry. I'm annoyed that my drink on New Year's Day has prevented me getting the Dry January badge but that was my choice at the time.

Going to try for 100 days as I'm nowhere near ready to moderate... I've been honest with myself and I know I'd be straight on that slippery slope to wine every night.

But let's carry on in whatever capacity and keep chatting here. Here's to February!

I am glad to see that the Try Dry app calendar rolls to the next month so I can keep tracking my drinking/non-drinking days.i think that will be very helpful.

SwiftyFifty · 01/02/2021 08:53

Hi all. I feel like I’ve just started my “ journey”
Dry January was great and really got me thinking. I know if I started again now though that I wouldn’t moderate and would be right back to where I was two months ago!
Still feel extraordinarily tired but not sure that’s related. I’m gonna take one month at a time so starting the new one today.
I told myself once jan was over I would start racking my nee found sugar addiction!
Looking forward to the chats and support this group brings during February

MrsMcBoatface · 01/02/2021 09:36

Congratulations to all of us! I never thought I'd have been capable of giving up wine. But I've gone a month without (almost, I started with a rosè hangover on 4 Jan) and I do not want to go back to the bottle per night on my own, waking with headache of some sort. I like my new normal. I don't want to give up altogether but I think I'll stick to very weak g&t for Feb, and only on weekends, and leave the wine for a while.

I'm not going to beat myself up if I occasionally drink, but doing this DJ has really made me think about my drinking habits and given me so much self confidence Grin

CandyLeBonBon · 01/02/2021 13:59

We've only bloody well gone and done it!!! DRY JANUARY PEOPLE!!

Well done!!! Grin

Frodont · 01/02/2021 14:09

The thought of drinking is making me nervous!

CandyLeBonBon · 01/02/2021 15:19

Me too!
teelizzy · 01/02/2021 16:26

@BoozeHound I hear you. I have to remind myself that when I've been successful in moderating it's been all about staying within the boundaries I've set myself, which need to be consistent and where I need to be honest.

Bear in mind that after a dry month your tolerance for booze will have reduced but maybe habits haven't.

I guess the other thing we are all seeing/addressing is how much of our headspace drinking/not drinking takes up (Answer:almost always more than it merits, so let's shift the mental furniture)

Keep On Keeping On x

OhioOhioOhio · 01/02/2021 16:37

I love that 'mental furniture' phrase!

MyGhastIsFlabbered · 01/02/2021 17:03

So, now I've completed Dry January it's time for me to start dealing with my sugar addiction. This will be much, much harder, but I've realised I've basically replaced alcohol with snacking which is just as bad for me.

OhioOhioOhio · 01/02/2021 17:06

I'm not ready for that. Well done op. What's everyone's best thing about being dry?
Mine are, in no particular order, 1. Not thinking twice about driving.

  1. The changes in my face and complexion.
  2. The quality of my sleep.
SwiftyFifty · 01/02/2021 17:11

Lack of the constant feeling of guilt/ self disgust
Deeper sleep
Less worry about health

OhioOhioOhio · 01/02/2021 17:13

Yeah I like not wondering how much shit I spoke and knowing that my liver is on its way to being a bit cleaned out.

iwantavuvezela · 01/02/2021 17:13

So glad I made it - resisted buying a bottle of wine today (was on sale and thought I would have it on Friday) - probably best not to tempt myself - going to try drinking on weekends and dry during the week

CoronaIsWatching · 01/02/2021 18:08

Bought myself a small bottle of gin and going to have a few drinks tonight - first ones since NYE. This is a treat though. Just weekends from now on and I'm carrying on with the Try Dry app

Diet also starts with a vengeance today!

boozynamechange · 01/02/2021 18:59

For me the best bits are:
1- being more alert, patient and present with my young DD
2 - lost 4.5lbs
3 - more productive evenings instead of half falling asleep doing nothing. I've read a book for the first time in a year, made progress on household jobs, done my nails etc.

My plan is to drink occasionally but not going to say I'm going to stop mid-week drinking, like I first planned. Because dry weekends are what impacts my time with DD the most positively.

My aim is to find more sociable activities. Long baths have been nice, but everything I've started doing is quite solitary.

Thanks and well done to everyone on here for their honesty and encouragement.

ColouringPencils · 01/02/2021 20:30

Keep on Keeping On reminds me of this song My Silver Lining

Shmithecat2 · 01/02/2021 20:57

Well. I had 2 large glasses of my favourite wine tonight. Apart from feeling a bit fuzzy headed at first, I'm not sure why I bothered 🤷🏻‍♀️. I've already washed my glass and settled down with a hot Ribena. Maybe this is a turning point for me? 🤔

PeacheyPeach · 01/02/2021 21:56

Hey all x new month new challenge 😁
Looking forward to seeing how this month pans out. I'm hoping that i lose weight this month. I definitely feel less bloated for not drinking but I've got about 2 stone to lose. Hoping by the summer that's on it's way out as well!

SantaMonicaPier · 02/02/2021 07:39

I'm really not interested in drinking at all. Maybe that will change at the weekend though.

Frodont · 02/02/2021 08:02

I agree swifty

I didn't drink that much but still sometimes managed to wake up at 3am panicking that I'd overshared on Facebook. I don't miss that.
