This thread is for those of us on the Sober October thread who have decided to continue on, plus anyone else who would like to join us.

1st November coming up on Sunday - a good day to start! Grin

OP posts:
ElspethFlashman · 13/11/2020 10:34

Day 13.

Feel fantastic, have to say. Smile

FauxFox · 13/11/2020 20:52

Day 15 - bored this evening. Dark and cold, crap tv, everyone on screens separately, nothing to do but boring chores or freelance work which feels wrong for a Friday night.

Health, energy, looks, sleep feel virtually unchanged. Only benefit is a sense of satisfaction in giving my liver a rest and the fact I’m spending nothing on booze (though the online shopping for other things is certainly up from last month!)

Not drinking but if I was I would not be so bored. Can’t wait for fucking lockdown to be over Sad

ElspethFlashman · 14/11/2020 08:52

I was a bit bored last night. DH had a couple of glasses of wine and got merry almost immediately and was hilarious. I envied him and felt like my energy definitely wasn't the same!

Also can sadly report the Sangre del Toro 0% is almost undrinkable. Hey ho.

But this morning he's a bit grotty and I feel fine. So I am glad this morning.

SnoopyMcLoopy · 14/11/2020 13:25

@ElspethFlashman and @FauxFox ditto I was bored last night too and as I was going home from work I was thinking about wine, and that it was Friday night and I could really do with a glass. Although I realised it wouldn't have been a glass, it would have been a bottle and that I would not enjoy it after making this 30 day commitment to not drink. So, the moment passed, as I knew it would, but still, it irked me. This morning, although I slept well, I don't feel refreshed at all. Think I need to an online HIIT class to snap out if it 🤣

Hope everyone else is getting through the weekend. The weather is dire here 😫

Hohofortherobbers · 14/11/2020 14:17

Miserable weather here too, well done for staying strong last night, you are doing so well if your partners are drinking in front of you, all credit to you, I would find that hard. Shame about the red wine, I'd love to find a good one. I recall drinking an AF mulled wine, possibly an M&S one when I was pregnant which I was convinced must be alcoholic it tasted do good, maybe I'll try to find that and give it a go. Perhaps a mulled wine will have that depth and rounded flavour these AF wines are missing, I just miss the taste and the ritual(and my wine glasses!), not the effects of the drink. Bought more becks blue today, I really do like that. Maybe I have heightened observation currently but all the shelf ends in the supermarket were heaving with red wine, all through the shop i faced it from the moment I went in til I left at every turn. Watched a film last night and was sponsored by casillero del diablo, so red wine pouring beautifully on the screen twice every advert break. Wonder when I'll stop noticing that? 44 days today.

SnoopyMcLoopy · 17/11/2020 08:20

Morning all, how's everyone getting along this week?

ElspethFlashman · 17/11/2020 09:38

17 days in. Don't miss it at all. Still trying every substitute on the shelves!

Am unexpected side effect is that DH has virtually cut out the booze also, just because there's 0% stuff in the house. He likes being "able to have a beer" on a work night.

SarcasticIntrovert · 17/11/2020 09:46

So on Saturday night I had some. But it's all good. I did six weeks and five days and made a conscious decision that I wanted to have some wine on Saturday night. I didn't trust myself not to drink a whole bottle so bought two of the little bottles (not actually sure what that equates to - please don't tell me it's the same as a big bottle!) I waited til the kids were in bed then enjoyed my drinks and went to bed. No drama. Felt nice to be in control of it. Now have no plans/desire to drink again until Christmas when I plan to do similar. I wasn't sure whether to post or not because everyone is doing so well and I don't want to be an example/reason/excuse for anyone to not do this but in the interests of honesty I've decided to share it. I did enjoy it but I've enjoyed being booze free just as much and am quite happy at the thought of no alcohol for another 6 weeks, or however long it is until Christmas. And even then I'm reasonably confident I'll be careful and controlled with it. Well done to everyone who is past the halfway point in the month, or longer. Xxx

SarcasticIntrovert · 17/11/2020 09:48

I should clarify that it was wine, not spirits that I drank. I think that makes a bit of a difference!

ElspethFlashman · 17/11/2020 11:28

Well I'm not necessarily going to stop forever, we all have different reasons for taking a break.

My reason was because it was creeping up. But that was all.

I don't even know whether I'm just doing this for just November yet!

Hohofortherobbers · 17/11/2020 12:04

That sounds like a very controlled measured decision sarcasticintrovert, not a tumble off a wagon. I'm still feeling happy not drinking but not thinking it will be forever. I expect I'll make a similar conscious decision to drink t some point.

SnoopyMcLoopy · 17/11/2020 15:48

@SarcasticIntrovert def not a falling off the wagon! You're an adult and you made a decision. I'm only doing this for lockdown but as it's been easier than I thought (so far) I plan to not drink during the week after this. I'll see how that pans out but this is quite a good reset.

Hohofortherobbers · 20/11/2020 18:47

How are you all going? I'm still here, still sober. Checking in as I am seriously tempted tonight, would be easy to give in, Friday night is my weakness, could do with some encouraging words people

SnoopyMcLoopy · 20/11/2020 19:15

@Hohofortherobbers ditto I was seriously craving Friday wine. Won't cave in though 😀

ElspethFlashman · 20/11/2020 19:24

I'm here.

Have some 0% white wine. Reckon it'll be rank but I'll give it a go!

Hohofortherobbers · 20/11/2020 20:09

Let me know what the wine's like, I've had 2 becks blue and going to head for an early night, the sooner I reach my morning motivation the better. I felt fine at work, just got home, facing a long wet cold weekend of nothing to do and drinking wine was my first thought to cheer myself up. 51 days and still the wine witch is whispering to me. Thank you both for joining me, I feel you guys here really understand

westr · 20/11/2020 20:20

Just had a zoom drinks with a bottle of peroni alcohol free beer which isn't at all bad

ElspethFlashman · 20/11/2020 23:48

Aldi 0% white wine was the best of the bunch so far, but it still tasted too much of elderflower or something. But I'm just glad it didn't taste like apple juice!

I have eaten 4 bags of crisps today out of a multipack. It appears I've substituted one lack of impulse control for another.

But that's Decembers challenge to tackle!

Hohofortherobbers · 21/11/2020 12:43

Much more positive this morning, have bought a non alcoholic mulled wine which I will try tonight in my fancy wine glasses, I will report back later.

SnoopyMcLoopy · 21/11/2020 17:10

Well done everyone. I'm feeling a little like a petulant child today - bored of it all and want to stamp my feet! I'll get over it 😊

Hohofortherobbers · 21/11/2020 20:53

Well I think that mulled wine was pretty drinkable. It was Sainsbury's Merry Berry and I warmed it for 30secs in the microwave and drank it out of my posh wineglass. It looks the part and it wasn't sweet.

Hohofortherobbers · 24/11/2020 21:57

Hi there, so only 6 days left of November, who's still with us? Any takers for a Dry Dec thread? I'm wondering about a Drier Dec instead of remaining teetotal.

SnoopyMcLoopy · 25/11/2020 06:45

Morning @Hohofortherobbers - I'm still here 🙋🏻‍♀️ and only going to break my fast on Friday 4th Dec. Looking at a damp Dec rather than dry, and going to try to be more mindful in future.

I actually cannot believe that I will have done a month without booze! It has definitely helped that we are in lockdown as i don't think I could have coped with socialising 😫

This thread has been very helpful 😀

neverenoughchelseaboots · 25/11/2020 06:50

If there is a damp December thread (or dry jan) please can I join?

Been trying to cut back in November with some success and wound like to continue and also cut back even more. Not sure I can do Christmas entirely though.

ElspethFlashman · 25/11/2020 09:05

I'm still going strong.

Feel great. I have had more energy in November than I have had since lockdown began.

No particular impulse to restart, so am going to see how far I get in December.
