Sober October - Plan Ahead

notroundthebend · 27/09/2020 17:38

I managed dry January, even did Feb! Then the virus hit and I went backwards with the wine drinking and it's really got to stop. So sober October it is (and beyond)..! So, Thursday will day one 🙌 join me if you wish.

I will. I’m starting today. I’ve been a january penguin many times and I want to get to October too. Every year.

My main issue is the slipping of the reset. After dry spells I vow to just drink fri/sat and this year I was doing well, but I agree that bastarding virus really screwed things up.

I’m fed up of feeling dehydrated and puffy and ‘a little bit off’

So I’m happily on board.

Vik1ng · 28/09/2020 13:07

Hi, I also did dry January which was great for a reset. But lockdown has seen my intake increase to almost every night on the wine. So my plan is a sober October and to keep going for as long as possible.

notroundthebend · 28/09/2020 17:51

Sounds similar.. 😬 make me wonder how many just hit the bottle! I need to really sort it out, Thursday is most definitely day one alcohol free for me.

I’m in, from last night in fact!
Did DJ, left me much better off. Not drinking is a habit, just, like everyone, these past few months have been something of a bastard.
The feeling of waking up knowing I didn’t drink is great. We can all do it GrinBrewFlowersStar

nibdedibble · 28/09/2020 18:02

Shocking grammar there, sorry.

Vik1ng · 29/09/2020 09:34

Sounds like we all had good intentions earlier this year, before we knew what 2020 was going to bring. I didn’t have a drink last night and feel so much better for it. Theres one small bottle of red in the house which I’ll drink before Thursday then I’m sober for October!

Todayisanewday75 · 30/09/2020 08:28

Can I join? Honestly can’t remember when I last had a dry day, definitely need a break. Can’t decide whether to finish the open bottle and start tomorrow or pour it away and start today

nibdedibble · 30/09/2020 08:55

@Todayisanewday75 Always a good time to start. These past few months have been so bloody weird. I know in the beginning in March I was the same but I HAD to cut back, for physical reasons as much as anything.
Even though I’m drinking far less, a month is going to be a challenge. Can’t advise on what to do with the wine - see how you feel tonight?

nibdedibble · 30/09/2020 08:56

(Assuming it’s wine! You didn’t say)

notroundthebend · 30/09/2020 14:33

One more day, I'm actually feeling very ready to kick this daily wine habit!! Not sure I even fancy a glass this evening to be honest. That said come 6pm it's all I seem to think of 🤨 good to see so many other joining in. Any half empty bottles will be down the sink tomorrow am to avoid temptation. Good luck all.

Me too, sober October for me! I've been trying to cut down for months so I've posted on my Facebook page so I can't just give up. Good luck everyone Smile

HowFastIsTooFast · 30/09/2020 18:27

Hello! I'm onboard from tomorrow too :) Going to enjoy a nice big glass of Malbec over dinner with DP tonight and then I'm done. I'm actually looking forward to it, I don't remember when I've ever gone that long without a drink before, interested to see any effect on my skin / weight / sleep etc.

Todayisanewday75 · 01/10/2020 06:46

Day 1! I’m excited but also quite nervous because I know I’m going to find it really hard

Butternutsqoosh · 01/10/2020 06:49

I think I might have to do it ... had 2 glasses of wine last night, then opened a bottle of fizz ... and finished it 😔 only me at home last night, this is also the reason I can't lose weight. So hoping I can at least do Sober October

Todayisanewday75 · 01/10/2020 07:23

@Butternutsqoosh I exercise quite a lot and am really careful about what I ear but still can’t lose that last half stone, it has to be the wine so am hoping this month I might finally get to my goal weight

Todayisanewday75 · 01/10/2020 07:23

Eat not ear!

notroundthebend · 01/10/2020 11:35

Hello all, just poured the remainder of a bottle of red down the sink. Day 1 and feeling determined. 💪 I need to shake off this weight and take control of this wine drinking.. no doubt I'll save a few quid to! What not to like ☺️ good luck all on day 1 I will be back later to check in AF around 7pm which is when I normally crack.

Day 1 for me too, I drink half a bottle of wine precisely every night, no more, no less, but it's a habit and I don't need it so why do I do it? If I don't drink I sleep better, I feel refreshed the morning and I feel a much better version of me. Also I worry at what point I won't be able to stop and end up drinking more, I read that alcoholism is a progressive disease and I worry that my 'habit' might end up becoming a problem. I worry that I think about alcohol too much, but everyone seems to be drinking every day now and that has validated my habit for a long time. I seem to be able to silence the worry quite easily by looking at other people's alcohol habits. It will be nice to check in with people on the same page as me.

headinthedrawer · 01/10/2020 14:43

Day 1 for me.Not drinking until December.Fed up with not being able to sleep.

Bohemond · 01/10/2020 14:56

Joining please. Just finished big project and have not been sleeping. Hoping sober October will help me get back into the sleeping habit. Good luck everyone!

nibdedibble · 01/10/2020 15:09

What’s everyone’s stubborn trigger? Mine is seeing people having drinks on tv. My mind goes ‘ooh...could just fancy one of those...’

Must have a Jedi mind struck ready for when that happens!

All the best for day 1 and the whole month Wink

notroundthebend · 01/10/2020 18:40

Evening all, checking in during the witching hour between tea / bath and can I sit down relax yet..! This is when the wine is poured, it's been a full on day but I'm sipping Pepsi max 🙌 hope it's going well for you all. Here's to a decent nights sleep and glowing skin (hopefully)

Rhubarb cordial here

Shadeslayer · 01/10/2020 20:06

Can I join. I'm post split with exdp and have been finding im tempted to have a drink more because the kids are away. I worry it will become a habit.

I also want to lose weight and be healthier in general.
