Can adoption leave start in September after a summer holiday placement?

Hi all. I’m a teacher and will be having a child placed with me in the summer holidays. Am I able to start my adoption leave from September or does it have to start on the day of placement? I can’t see anything in my work policy about it.

Adoption leave starts on placement day unless you opted to take it two weeks before the placement started.

I agree with Simonjt but bear in mind that as placement day takes place right at the end of transitions it may well be right at the end of the summer holidays anyway. For my second adoption we had 2 and a bit weeks of transitions, then a few days where she was living with me before actually being "placed", so about three weeks in all. If you are adopting a little baby it may be a shorter timeline though
