Hiya I've tried google but it's all rather confusing.

Both my parents have died he's been my step dad since I was 4 and I would love to formally be adopted by him. I'd love to do this as a surprise to him. Any advice would be greatly appreciative Smile

Probably hard to do as a surprise as you'd both need to sign the papers.
I imagine its just a case of going to the Council registration office but im afraid ive no clue..
Hope someone comes along with the right advice and best of luck x

Assuming you are in England/Scotland, then this is impossible even with his knowledge- adoptees have to be under 18.

You can't if in England & Wales.

However, you could change your surname to his by deed poll?
