Anyone listen to The Archers? Possible adoption storyline

Just in case anyone is interested there seems to be an adoption storyline in Radio 4's The Archers developing, for a gay couple, 50yo farmer Adam, and slightly younger chef Ian.
They have been invited to an information session next week.

Oh well, as long as they get their own baby Hmm

Thanks for the summary, Stevie

I bet there are fucking stacks of surrogates hanging around in the Bull just waiting for Ian to up-duff them with his 'own flesh and blood' Confused

So to bring you back to what I'm sure was the point ... how did ALice get married - isn't she about 13?

UnderTheNameOfSanders · 18/09/2017 08:32

Ah Kew I know what you mean. She is actually about to be 29!

According to the page I've just checked she and Chris eloped to Las Vegas. She may or may not still have been at uni (Southampton) at the time, I can't remember. It was around the time they did the 'Archers Extra' or something to try to attract younger listeners, but I didn't listen to that offspin.

What's the guessing someone who has never before thought of being a surrogate will offer to be a child-bearer for Adam and Ian and then refuse to give the baby up!

I wonder how "Clarrie Grundy accidentally caused an e-coli outbreak at Bridge Farm and nearly bankrupted it" - Saunders???

What a relief to know Siobhan was eventually silenced. I think her constant emoting and baby Ruari related guilt was what drove me away. So more than ten years then? Shock

UnderTheNameOfSanders · 21/09/2017 08:36

Italian Clarrie had a stomach bug and accidentally went back to work too early, thus transferring the bug to the yoghurts which then of course spread. I have a feeling a child was hospitalised.

Current situation so far:

  • Ian wanted a baby, Adam didn't, long term situation
  • Adam asked Ian how he could make him happy, Ian said baby
  • Adam said no to baby, but looked into adoption
  • They went to adoption info evening, Adam got keen on an older child, Ian was too
  • Ian announced they were adopting to Adam's family
  • Helen reminded Ian that he really wanted a baby 'of his own'
  • Ian tells Adam he wants a baby of his own and looks into surrogacy
  • They are off to meet some people who've had a child by surrogacy, (and the surrogates?) and others, Adam not keen but hasn't said so

Disaster waiting to happen imo.

A slightly robust friend of mine refers to the Clarrie episode as 'Shitty Fingers'.

Well how could you not really? Confused

I'm so glad it's so as to find a surrogate. I had thought it was practically impossible...

Kew Something else you might like to know:

Robert Snell's daughter Leonie (spoiled brat) and Lillian Bellamy's son James (useless halfwit spoiled brat) got together and have a son. They were going to call him Mowgli (!) but he ended up being named Mungo. They nearly split up, but Justin bribed James to go back to her. Luckily they live in London so we only occasionally have to put up with them.

I want to bet Helen will end up carrying Ian and Adam's baby (and not giving it up!)

I found the whole conversations a bit creepy, even though I don't object to surrogacy as a voluntary act of kindness, I just think it is a massive act of kindness! And the way it was spoken of made it sound a lot more like a business deal. Just can't put my finger on it! (not in it, not yogurt!)

I still wonder if they will talk Helen into it!

Paid surrogacy is just... Confused
