"Did you eat healthily when you were pregnant with me, Mum?"

DS has been watching the Newsround healthy eating week programmes which is a bit of a mixed blessing as he has a tendency to be a bit phobic/obsessive about any number of things and food is one of them.

So yesterdays programme says "there is some evidence that if you eat healthily when you are pregnant the baby will be less likely to put on weight later in life" (or words to that effect)

So DS (9) turns to me and says:

"Did you eat healthily when you were pregnant with me, Mum?"

"Well I'm afraid son, that I was overweight and probably had a rubbish diet before you were born, but the good news is that you didn't actually grow inside me so you might have escaped my bad influence"

DS looks slightly puzzled until the penny dropped then guffawed loudly and said...

"Oh yes I forgot!"

I do love that boy!

The maddest thing is that I actually paused for a minute trying to remember what my diet was like when I was pregnant!

Hope you don't mind me posting, am a lurker here...

Last year DD1 and I were researching our family history. We were looking at all my father's family and discovered that his grandfather was a band leader and church organist, and his aunts played in the band.

"Must be where you get the musical talent," I said to DD1, all excited at finding a reason for the fact that she, unlike the rest of us, is really good at playing an instrument.

Yes, my dad was adopted as a baby. Yes, I've known it all my life. Yes, we actually had a conversation before we started about the fact that we would have extra family lines to explore. But it took a good few minutes for both me and DD1 to realise that it couldn't be genetic. Doh.

Yes please do reassure your DP that DS is really very very familiar with his adoptive status.

In fact only last month mine and Devora's children were comparing notes on just how many mothers and fathers they each had... it was surreal but quite lovely in a way that just can't be articulated...

They were fab, weren't they? . Must get yours over for that promised sleepover...

dd2 is very clear that there is NO WAY ON THIS FRESH GREEN EARTH she is pushing a baby out of her wazoo. She is going to adopt. When she's 16 . We've got 10 years left to educate her about the importance of GCSEs...

I had a similar "what happened with DD's birth" moment recently. I do quite often forget I didn't give birth to her (No comedy moments though ! )
