Wonderful things people said about the child/ren who joined your family by adoption

Looking for some good news can we share the wonderful things people said about the child/ren who joined your family by adoption?

I'll start, my friend told me, he looks like he has always been here. I know what she meant and I was delighted. It kind of feels he has!

I get told that DD takes after me and is obviously my child. It's funny really, she has a look of DH but I can see real traits of my personality in her - mainly the daft bits :)

It wasn't something I'd ever anticipated really - just how similar we are!

I remember a time soon after we adopted our older two, so a long time ago.
We were still at the stage that we thought everybody must know that these children are not our birth children.
We were in a restaurant and dd2 was sitting in the high chair, the waiter said to me that she looked just like me, it was on the tip of my tongue to say something then realised, actually, I don't have to say.
That waiter got such a big tip that day he must have wondered what he had done so special.

It's amazing how many people (people who know that I've adopted) comment on how tall my children are and then say, "Well of course YOU'RE tall" as if that explains everything.

I like it! I normally say something like, "Yep, second generation fish fingers and baked beans diet; works wonders".

Are you tall Devora. I don't know why but I pictured you as quite short and petite :-)

Yes, I'm tall! Funnily enough, when Kristina first met me she said, "I thought you'd look like her", pointing to a woman who was short, with cropped dark hair and rather butch. (I'm actually tall with long blonde hair.)

Still, I thought she would be mumsy (presumably because of her quantity of children). And she's actually super-glam!

Goodness. Tall and blonde. Super glam! I won't be able to meet you all now!

Ok, so not quite on point but the most wonderful thing I have experienced on my adoption journey was today. My friends and family; some parents, some singlies, young, old, male female gathered and spent hours celebrating the fact my husband and I are about to start a family by adoption. They threw me a baby shower. I was treated no differently from my friends who had birth children, we have been been showered with gifts and total excitement. Lovely, lovely, lovely. I am very blessed.

That is so lovely :)

My work friends threw me a surprise shower at work - I will never get over the love and effort they put in to making it a truly memorable day.

It's great when people around you are sharing your excitement and joy isn't it?

When DS came to us as a very tiny baby, he was in withdrawal and very frail. He's now 5'7" and very athletic (he's 14). I love that DH tells me that I 'grew him strong'. I've always put such a lot of effort into his diet and health and I'm really proud of the strong, sporty young man we've produced .

The one that really sticks in my mind was early on, my eldest dd was in a bad way, but had had a minor breakthrough and one of my brothers turned to me and said 'she's so clearly your daughter, so bloody stubborn' it was so unconscious of him that it makes me smile just to remember it.
She is a lot like me, has both my stubbornness and unfortunately my temper. We actually look alike as well, there's only 15 years between us people often Comment, We just smile at each other and nod.
With dd2 a lovely lady the other day commented on how happy she looked and how she'd rarely seen such a happy baby. Dd2 is only 7 months and went through withdrawal at birth, it made my day to hear that.

Shockers and Mama how beautiful.

Mine is very similar to yours, Mama. Dd is very sociable and loves playing with any other children. I was at the park with dd and my mother and my mother was remarking on how sociable dd is and then said, 'well of course you were the same too. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree.' I had to remind her this apple didn't grow on this tree.

"He looks like he's been with you since the beginning" - I think she meant he looked settled and contented, which made me smile!
